MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

The big challenge is getting a media deal that pays more than the ACC as an independent. Might take a real aggressive move such as 6 or more ACC programs going independent as a group. There IS a "one sport" ACC withdrawal that was part of the ACC settlement with Clemson / FSU. 6 programs or more leaving IN ONE SPORT with the remaining sports staying in the ACC ... the withdrawal fee is $75M. So who picks up the media deal with the "rebel conference":

-Miami
-FSU
-UNC
-Clemson
-Va Tech
-Ga tech

They need to play 10 P4 games to be considered for the CFP. Reportedly the SEC / B10 will be announcing a scheduling agreement as soon as the 24 team CFP is announced as formally agreed to. The REBELS will need to get games with the B10, SEC and B12 as well as ND in order for it to work. Does FOX come after this "group" since they NEED marquis games to program?

The "SEC and B1G aren't looking to expand" is just public posturing.

The SEC and B1G don't want to get sued. Heck, Greg Sankey said as much publicly a couple years ago when asked about further expansion during SEC media days.

Sankey and Pettiti aren't expanding right up until they do.

How are we going to be iced out of the playoffs? With the way we recruit and portal in talent we are going to be a top 10 roster every season.

They need to poach a few teams from other conferences. If the money is right they will leave.

The ND AD has reportedly been meeting along with Sankey and Pettiti discussing the "scheduling agreement". ND will be PART OF IT. They bring eyeballs and the P2 are aware of it. They aren't being left out.

Notre Dame will head to the B1G about the same time we make our move.

Sankey isn't gonna ***** Pettiti by helping Notre Dame out of its scheduling squeeze.

SEC and B1G have 9 game conference schedules and are about to announce a scheduling agreement. They’re not going to add Miami as an 11th P4 game. ACC sure as **** won’t be scheduling us. So that leaves one conference for us to try to field 10 games from.

It’s not feasible.

Problem is who are we scheduling? In this new era, it’s going to be hard to schedule marquee games.

Correct.

There is no workaround as ND is on the verge of finding out.

Not with the SEC and B1G further expanding while going to (at minimum) a 9-game conference schedule will shrink non-conference scheduling opportunities.

Those P2 schools are not gonna turn around and say, "Hey Miami. Hey Notre Dame. I know y'all looking for some marquee games. We'd be glad to help y'all out!"
This 100%. The B1G and $EC will play the “we’ve already booked our schedules” card repeatedly in order to bleed out the non-members. Same tactics that are often used in litigation.

College Sports Inc is way too big of an industry to not focus on the bottom line while realigning conferences, expanding the postseason, leveraging media rights deals and so on.

Any CEO would be as ruthless and focused on the end game as Sankey and Pettiti are right now

They would 💯 have to have a negotiated deal with the SEC or BIG10 to have at least 3-4 teams that will schedule us but why would they. USC, Michigan and Mich St already told ND to **** off.
I’d assume FSU would say the same to us along with anyone else in the ACC.

"We had no prior knowledge of Miami's plans. After they took their departure actions from the ACC, we then engaged in lawful discussions..."

FWIW, I highly doubt the current form of the Protect College Sports Act passes.

Still think we end up in the Big Ten. Makes too much sense for both parties, and Amazon is a nice bargaining chip to have at your side.

Having a Top 10 roster and a bottom 50 schedule are not mutually exclusvie events

That is why I said negotiate a clause for an automatic bid with an AP 25 finish.

Sankey: "Hey, where's that canned press release we do for when we add new teams?"

Administrative Assistant: "Right here in my desk Mr. Sankey where you told me to keep it handy."

Sankey: "Go ahead and send it out. And if anybody calls, I'll be unavailable til Monday."
