Miami needs to go to the spread offense

With all the athletes and speed down in south fl. Miami would be unstoppable on offense. As a proponent to the Pro style offense I was opposed ti this a few years ago but I'm changing my stance. Miami was built on innovative minds who were somewhat ahead of their time... guys like Howard Jimmy Johnson etc. Just think the spread is the in thing now. Yea, I know pro style teams still win ball games just think Miami would be deadly running the spread.

When we've won, we've won because we had better players than everyone else. Schnellenberger coached at a time when teams like Nebraska wouldn't have known a passing game if it bit them in the ***. Jimmy Johnson's innovations were all of the defensive variety and he definitely DID change the template for the way defense was played in the ensuing years. Erickson's innovation was a reliance on the one back offense. It worked because he had better players than his opponents. He was far less effective later in his career without this competitive advantage. Butch's trump card was identification of talent, not his innovative mind. He overwhelmed his opponents with superior talent. Coker did the same until the well ran dry.

I think this is the reason Richt hasn’t run more hurry up, spread em out kind of O. I agree with what PAR is saying, because we will always have the talent to run an O like that. I just don’t think you can run that O with sub par QB play.

Miami running the spread gives You a chance to add a player like Shaun shivers instead off a guy like realus George. Pretty much a waste of a Scholly IMO.

Yep and nacho fries are back at taco bell. The team with the better players usually win. I think Miami running the spread would attract those type of players even more.

One thing I’ll say is I wish all our guys well when the leave here but I really Don’t GAF if they're HOF worthy af they leave here ( as I said I wish them the best) as long as they are HOF worthy while they’re here.

I’m more interested in players making the U great than I am them making some pro team great.If one becomes the other great.But ball out for the U and make tis program great.

For far too long we’ve worried about how many guys we had in the league while we struggled.Sure a prostyle offense gets plYers ready for the league.But with the talent we can put on offense is it the best for The U ?

Make MIAMI Great again!!! It’s the most important part.

The point is that your assertion that Miami was built on innovative minds that were somewhat ahead of their time doesn't really hold water. Miami was built on stockpiling talent and using that talent to overwhelm the opposition. It's a pretty simple equation. The notion that we need to run a spread offense because it's the "in thing" and that it will attract better players is also a baseless assertion. We're building something here because we have a coach who knows what the **** he's doing and is using that knowledge to stockpile talent. This is why we'll win moving forward. The jury may be out as to whether Richt's QBs (all dual threat capable btw) will pan out but there is no doubt that the process of talent acquisition at the other skill positions is going very, very well. I have yet to hear any negative comments from recruits about the fact that we don't run a spread offense.

God, the porsters on this board sometimes. Kid hasn't played a down of college football yet. Why don't we see what Rick's offense can do when he has all of his pieces in place. If it doesn't work in couple of years, then I'll be the first to call for a banner.

I agree with you, Shaun Shivers was an incredible talent that absolutely should be here. Height means nothing at RB
