Miami needs a new annual rival

Preferably someone out of conference. Now we don’t know what the future holds surrounding our time in the ACC (there’s a whole thread on it) but until we hear something official, we should assume we’ll be playing in this whack conference for the next few years. Even if we do get out, we should still add an annual rival with a top program and I feel like it’s something we’ve needed for a very long time. So, who should it be?

I know the first two programs that come to mind are Florida and Notre Dame. Florida would never agree to an annual rivalry game with us since they already have one with FSU along with their super duper TuFf SEC schedule, and the fact they can’t beat us or even compete with us the majority of the time pretty much eliminates them as an option. I don’t see us playing anytime soon with conference schedules expanding and all the other things I mentioned.

So what about Notre Dame? Why don’t we have an annual rivalry game with these ********? I mean the times we play draw a lot of attention. There’s some history. Notre Dame is going to need tougher programs to play as teams like USC drop them because of conference realignment and all that. ND already has its half assed ACC membership. I know they agreed to a long term rivalry with Clemson but why them and not us? They’re down and we’re up. I know it’s only been a short period but I don’t know the future of Clemson as they seem to really be struggling competing in the NIL/portal era. Regardless, why can’t ND agree to play both of us annually considering they’re independent and can do whatever they want? I think if ND is going to be a half *** member they should play the best programs in the ACC every year because I feel like they typically play the most **** teams in the ACC far more than they play the top 3rd of the league. They already have 2 cupcake “rivals” they play every year (Navy, Purdue) so why can’t they play us and Clemson every year?
 
I mean if we go to the Big ten…OSU…PSU…Nebraska
 
I want FSU to be "just good enough" for people to care. But, if they drop into never recover land, how about one of the Texas schools. Perhaps Baylor because they are good but not scary. Naming us as a rival will boost them some. Texas Tech is rolling now but we likely will see them in the playoffs as long as their billionaire CEO stays invested. Or, we could start B1G play early and schedule Nebraska or Wisc. Solid brands that would spread our message to other areas. If we really want to be strategic we could just look at the B1G schedule and the one of OSU, PSU, and Mich that do not play the others, play them that year...................the risk is that we win and that keeps one of them out of the playoff. If we lose we may be left out. Unless ND really offers a sweet deal, let them play Army, Navy, and the Air Force................

We need an opponent(s) for the next four years and that’s about it as far as the near term. Literally only one game open on our schedule.

After that, all the TV deals will be ending and we’ll see how realignment, expansion, legislation, etc has affected the sport. Doesn’t make sense to plan many, or any, more matchups for the 2030s rn. We already cancelled the home&home with USCe.

2027: Utah @ Las Vegas; Troy @ Hard Rock
2028: USF @ Hard Rock; Notre Dame @ South Bend
2029: Temple & Auburn @ Hard Rock
2030: Buffalo @ Hard Rock + Auburn @ Auburn

In the wish fulfillment-zone, I wish UF would play us at least a few times each decade, since we know every year is off the table for them. Additionally, UCF, Penn State, and Nebraska are all teams I’d wanna play more often.

Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Alabama to a lesser extent as well. USC or UCLA could be strategically advantageous.

Schools aren’t going to annually play 11 or 12 P4 opponents unless they are forced to. IMO the sport will eventually require 11 outta 12 P4 opponents because it’s one the easier ways to raise revenue that isn’t being taken advantage of atm.
 
i've advocated that miami/Nd should be annual rivals on "rivalry weekend"... both teams need a marquee game to finish the season and this game would definitely be a top 5 game and maybe top 2 or 3 with the way both programs are trending.. Mich/OSU would be tough to beat initially but we could easily pass up Bama/Auburn because of our national draw...

even if we end up in the B1G, our annual end of season rivalry game with ND would supercede any other game B1G would want us to play... they'd be ok with the every other year broadcasting rights becuase of how big it would be instead of a weak conference game against an irrelevant opponent...

my only hesitation is playing in south bend indiana at the end of November every year... would hate that...

At 16 or higher teams for playoffs I think ND is fine with their cupcake schedule. Easy to rest players, dev players etc. Doubt "the committee" ever puts enought weight on sos to keep any 10-2 or better teams out.

Only a couple reasons the ACC tolerates ND:

1. All in their inclusion is P&L + for ACC and its members
2. Acc decision makers are masochists and love the abuse

I would love an annual Miami ND game. I think most fans would. Unfortunately, we can't just wave our hands and make it happen. Fortunately, Miami is one of the ACC programs scheduled with more frequency to play them in the coming years.

I do think FSU will make a good coaching hire in the near future, and we will be right back to the old rivalry.

Don't forget, VT was a longtime Miami rival too, and Franklin is no slouch. I would like to see that heat up again too.
 
Our annual rival - should be whoever faces us in the National Championship Game.

Notre Dame doesn't deserve such attention - they're some of the most whining, self-important sissy-boys in college football.

They get their little feelings hurt - and they don't want to play any more and go home to pout. They're unworthy!

Their worst nightmare is to be somewhat ignored.

UF, FSU, Ohio State - they've been rivals of sorts in decades past, so we'll just have to wait until a deserving, worthy opponent puts the grunt back into our crossings due to scheduling.

The cream always arises to the top. Just takes a few minutes.

To SAY Notre Dame is worth being a UM annual rival - is to elevate them far above what the National Press already does. They're always overrated. No sense in us contributing!

Assuming this happens (which I believe it will), there will be 20 something teams in that league and God only knows how that scheduling would work. It already seems a bit chaotic with 18 teams. OSU/Michigan being the biggest rivalry within the conference and in all of CFB. Outside of that, there really isn’t any legitimate annual rivalry within the league.

TEMU is just…lame to me. What’s the coolest thing about that program? That one time Johnny Manziel took down Alabama. That’s it. That’s all I can think of. He’s the only player with any kind of swagger who’s played there in recent memory. He also had a lot of baggage that outweighed that swagger.

But wouldn’t you want the opportunity to knock those whiny ***** out of the playoff picture every year? I mean we’ve done it twice the last 2 times we’ve played them.
