Miami/ND analysis-prediction

Strictly comparing position by position I would say ND's only clear advantage is LB and Miami's clear advantage is QB. I would lean ND at RB, WR, and DB - but not worried in the slightest about any of those positions at Miami. You could argue RB is a clear advantage for ND but our room is too loaded for me to classify it as that. I would lean Miami at TE and DE. No idea about DT - I think Miami has the talent advantage at DT but ND has the experience/age advantage.

If Miami stops the run, meaning an area we have a lesser unit (LB) and an unknown (DT) won over the strength of their team, I really don't see how they beat us. A quick start for us and getting the young QB behind, I doubt they would be able to claw back in on the road in that environment. As long as our defense is what I think it is. Respectable and actually somewhat capable of getting a stop.
Can NDs lbs cover? Lofton and Bauman could have big games. When I saw 34 in coverage last year, he did not look good.

The crowd is going to be crazy, loud and obnoxious
The weather will be hot, humid and possibly rainy with the field wet
We have an experienced QB that played against SEC teams and won while ND a has a redshirt freshman
We can rotate in WR’s and RB’s
Home field is a beatch…ND a should be gassed.

We get more TE matchups on DBs because we are typically only 3 wide at WR.

With Arroyo it was by design because he was significantly bigger and it was a matchup advantage from that angle.

We’ll see what matchups they look to get with Lofton.

My prediction is a low scoring game.

I think we can rattle Carr early. Their receivers are good, better than our receivers in my opinion, but Carr has zero experience and was throwing picks during summer camp. If we can shake his confidence, we can stifle their offense. The run defense just has to hold up. If ND's pass game is not a threat, we should be able to key in on the run and limit Love.

On the flip side, I don't trust our receivers to create separation against ND's secondary until they prove otherwise. It's possible they clamp us and also make us one-dimensional, too.

Miami 21 - ND 17

Just read through the ND boards.. they say love will run all over us/our safeties aren’t good and our LB are suspicious.. car just needs and okay game to walk away with an easy Win.

they don’t see this being a close game at all…

I’m stoked for Sunday to be there for this showdown.. hope everything from camp that’s been said lives up to it. If so will
Be a **** good game!

Sooo...

1. Love will need to have the first outstanding game in his career against a top team with a good defense.
2. The ND fans know nothing about our safeties and linebackers.
3. Carr will not have an "OK" game.

Let’s see what Toure has to say about that.

That's consistent with the national narrative. Everyone assumes our defense won't change and we will won't be able to stop a nosebleed. What they don't realized was that we have significant up[grades at those positions including a DC that is competent. I hope their coaching staff is as naive as some fans.

The narratives from ND around this game are hilarious.

“The QB competition took so long because both QBs are elite.”

“We travel well, half the stadium is going to be ND fans.”

“Miami has a terrible secondary, the defense is not good.”

So much coping going on… 😂.

It is going to be a very rough introduction for CJ Carr to CFB. He needs to be more than a game manager for them, I don’t see that happening. Will be a nice reminder for ND about what happened in 2017.

I’m trusting Mario that our FG kicker is adequate. Although adequate is not good enough..

Just curious - what boards are you reading? I'm not seeing this on any board I belong to. Most seem to think this is going to be a really tough game in a crazy environment. No one thinks the QB battle took so long because they're both elite. In fact, everyone was surprised both played so poorly. Everyone thinks if Carr can limit mistakes, ND has a really good chance to win. This isn't crazy because the roster is the best it's been, in terms of talent and depth, in 30 years.

Agreed...I have a close ND friend who is like us on this board, maniacal, is on all the boards, has some connections to people close to the program, etc.

He told me almost everyone up there is very nervous about the QB situation, and by no means is anyone saying the competition took so long because both kids are elite. It's literally the exact opposite, neither kid did anything in camp to separate themselves and both were very up and down. From what he told me, the biggest question mark on their entire team is Carr. And not just because he's a redshirt freshman, but he flat-out did not play well in camp, but he was slightly better than an even worse Minchey, and they think he gives them the best chance to win. The rest of the roster is very good and they're confident in the kids they have replacing who they lost. Except at QB.

I think, if you compared position groups just to compare overall rosters and not how they will compete in the game, the biggest mismatch for Miami is at QB.

I'd say two things about your question.

First, while I strongly believe this is the best Miami board by far (I've been posting for over 25 years on multiple boards), we are not affiliated with Rivals-Scout-247-on3-ESPN-No3-ESPM, etc. And our posters don't usually know any good "non-affiliated" websites of our opponents if they are not on Rivals-247-on3.

Second, this tends to work both ways. We've had some ND fans (not you, of course) come here to tell us how the Miami fans are yapping, and yet that's not what I've seen on this board.

PS, we do sometimes have long-time running jokes, like we will soon have a "We Roll" thread that gets started. It's just a tradition around these parts.

Bingo. This is a situation where the "tie goes to the runner." Carr has the highest upside, so he gets the nod over Minchey. Denbrock and Freeman want to push the ball downfield. Carr can get hot and really put pressure on the secondary, but then he takes too much risk and turns it over. Very high risk/reward.
