Seems a lot of people are just going on the headline and not actually clicking / reading the article.
The 1986 Miami Hurricanes were absolutely the most-hated college football team of all time; the fatigues and steak-fry walk-out at the 1987 Fiesta Bowl absolutely solidified that. 99.9% of the nation cheered when Vinny tossed that fifth interception and "good guys" Penn State won it all and gave Joe Paterno his second ring.
Usually think this off-season lists are stupid (which this is) and off-base (which this one isn't). Actually an impressive list. USC (2005) was definitely hated—The Bush Push at South Bend, the half-title in 2003 and all that three-peat and dynasty talk (with smarmy Matt Leinart and teflon Reggie Bush, who was getting away with everything back then—until he wasn't.)
Ohio State (2002) should've been #3 on that list—as everyone outside of Columbus hates the Buckeyes and that smug team with Tressel and Clarett was just awful; winning it all on a technicality. Much more deplorable than Auburn (2010) or Florida State (2014).
Nice call with Florida (1996) as Spurrier whined his way through that season; crying about late hits on Wuerffel in the 24-21 loss to Florida State during the regular season and then getting a rematch in the Sugar Bowl. (Had undefeated #2 Arizona State beaten #4 Ohio State in the Rose, the Gators don't get a title.)
Notre Dame (1993) was awful—but (1988) could've made that list, too. Not a bad call with Oklahoma (2017) as the Baker Mayfield hatred was real, but he was really the only villain on that squad. Otherwise forgettable outside of him.
