The NFL has a salary cap of like $330M/yr right now. NIL budget is likely going to be MAX $30-40M next year. That's 1/8th the budget for CFB compared to NFL. Meanwhile QB in NFL gets max $60M, which would be at the top in FA even. Meanwhile the #1 pick is capped at $10M year 1. Well 10/330=3% of the cap. It has zero logic to pay a guy as if they are already a top 10 pick when they have no alternatives really. If they want to get payed like a top 10 pick, they'd enter the draft. So Artificially these guys should have an absolute ceiling created by the NFL Rookie Salary cap, unless you're literally paying a lock 1st rounder to return - which Sorsby isn't.

There is no way a CFB Qb should be making MORE than $5M this year. That should be the ceiling.

I think Cam got $1.5 range from UM. Im sure he made a good chuck outside of UM $ too

Isn’t it also true that school’s will use the value of total cost of attendance as part of the package? So, if total cost of attendance for four years is $50,000 they’ll count that 200K as part of the package.

If we do go with our current options on staff, this might be the year to do it. Especially if games like PITT and ND are scheduled mid season. You could play one of our own and see how it plays out. Especially if games like central Michigan, Florida a+m, boston college are scheduled to start. Many of our opponents should have new starting qbs unless they go portal. Of course going to the portal with a proven guy would be great

I guess the question is does a QB who has aspirations to be a #1 draft pick go to an offense that was an utter disaster in 2025? Does he believe Kiffin can fix all their problems over the span of a few months? Good luck with that if that's his choice.

That is a good question. If I were in his shoes, im going to a team with top talent that I can compete. I think lsu could win 8 games, but that would be a ceiling depending how portal season plays for them. If he is wanting to make a play to be a top pick, he saw what happen with Cam, he sees what miami is building. Miami isnt just a 1 year wonder(tech, even though I think they will be in a good situation again next season) or a rebuilding LSU. Miami is a national brand and he will get the exposure and put in a system that will showcase his strengths.
