Miami lands ELITE 2026 TE Gavin Mueller

Playing Debbie downer here…

1. Lofton has been a huge disappointment this year.
2. Nickle career stats are 1 catch for 6 yards
3. Carver been here 3 years and has zero catches.

The only one with some promise is Brock and even him is an unknown until proven otherwise.

Luka Gilbert is going to be a STUD. Briggs going to be Brevin Jordan like. Future is bright for the TE room

I know this is more of a "physical tools," "athletic profile," and "height/weight/speed ratio," "high ceiling" prospect, but can anyone speak intelligently about the competition on his schedule this season? I looked up his new High School (South Elgin) because I'd never heard of it, and I learned it is in a pretty affluent suburb about 40 miles northwest of Chicago. Based on the highlights, the opps didn't look to be anywhere in his league when it comes to height/weight/speed.

Brock Bowers’ HS competition didn’t look good either. ****. He played 8 man football to if I remember correctly.

247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins is bullish on what Mueller brings to the table.
"He has had as good of a fall as any tight end in the class," Ivins said of Mueller. "A dynamic Y projection that constantly finds ways to get into the end zone. Can slip out of the backfield and turn underneath routes into chunk plays with his burst, power and vision. Very hard for defenders to mark when motioned across formation with his initial jump. He's the type of tight end that can be a weapon in any passing attack, given the run-after-catch capabilities, and should be viewed as a potential game-wrecker for Miami."

In a system that has produced NFL tight ends in recent years in Will Mallory and Elijah Arroyo, Ivins views Mueller as somebody who can potentially get on the field early in Coral Gables.
"It also wouldn't be surprising to see Mueller push for snaps somewhat early. He's got exceptional physical features and is already carrying 250 pounds. He will need to adjust to life as a blocker in the ACC, but the athleticism could be hard to keep off the field. I mean, this is a kid with a 93 explosion score from NextGen prospects that tested extremely well as a youngster. Again, a big pick up for the Hurricanes at a position of need."

Gilbert has good potential, although he didn't list him.

Nickel shouldn't be listed…He barely saw the field at UAB, not going to here. Carver's walk on brother and Ruskavitch already get the mop up minutes over him.

The only thing I really cared about out of all that is this:
"this is a kid with a 93 explosion score from NextGen prospects that tested extremely well as a youngster"

Too bad it isn't overall athleticism score. But great build + Explosive testing is a good thing to bank on. And he seems to be the do it all guy for his HS team. Definitely seems like a guy that can rack up the YAC. and with his size I can't imagine he'll be a worse blocker than Bauman+Lofton are this year (at least long-term).

Schott, Gilbert, Mueller, and Briggs as a flexible TE is a good TE room entering next year. Wouldn't be surprised to see us go for a veteran pure blocking TE in portal though. And that should be cheap as well.

Some players from small schools with questionable high school competition hit, some don't...some players from large schools with top national HS competition hit, sone don't. It is mostly about the player..

Samson has turned out to be good though

Has he? 5* OL in his 3rd season splitting reps at LG. If that's "good," then "good" isn't good enough.

Besides, my point was it's easy to find an exception where someone who dominates lesser comp goes to college and continues to dominate. But every year there are also kids who fail when they step up in competition.

That said, in Bowers' case you had a lot more data suggesting he'd be fine with the step up in competition. Yeah, he went to school in Napa, but besides having exceptional height/weight/speed and dominating late, he had a lot going for him. Excellent athletic pedigree with both his mother and father being very good college athletes. Bowers went to camps and showed out at Nike (against real competition). He also played football for multiple seasons, and he had absolutely crazy production in high school.
