Just got word my old school is shutting down! Crazy to hear. This was a very good public school for a long time- but enrollment has kept on dropping to the point where now it is going to be closed. Some great canes have come out of Killian- Reggie Sutton, Randall Thrill Hill, Tony Gaiter (not a great cane but we were convinced dude was going to win the Heisman- thats how incredible he was in HS) Lamar Miller, Jaquan Johnson, Sedrick Redwine and of course the GOAT started his career as a Killian Cougar before moving on to Gulliver.

Dam thats crazy, I dont think I ever heard of a major high school closing down here like that, did other schools in area open, like how does that happen?

Can you post a link to an article?

I couldn’t find anything on the closure of the school.

Are they transferring to Clemson too?

where have you heard this?.

the school was just named an a school and one of the top magnets so i dont see that happening

Several Dade schools have been bleeding enrollment, especially in the last 5 years, Killian being one.

Still, this would be pretty surprising.

I hope this is not true. Class of 78. Unfortunately, I see a lot of historic schools facing closure. This year Florida is funding public schools at $7,644 per student. And private and Charter Schools are receiving $10,260 in vouchers per student.
Maybe they can shut down and reopen as a private school with better funding and less bureaucracy. 🤷‍♂️.

So this wasn't real? Lol

On a similar note. What happened to Jackson? I saw that are winless this year and had to forfeit the Soul Bowl. That used to one of the games of year. What happened?

yes it wasnt.

Miami Jackson kind of was dead in the water due to gentrification, and Booker T Washington reopening so they wouldnt get any overtown kids.
Majority of Miami Jackson kids are probably south and central americans or hispanics that dont care about football.

They had Max edwards former mnw hc there but he just got fired for watching **** during school during the spring...so alot of their kids just go to MNW OR MIAMI CENTRAL. They forfeited claiming not enough kids to play...which was an embarassment to the community last week.
THEIR ADMIN HAS TO DO BETTER and higher a big name coach again to get kids to go there and stay they were recently competitive...but those coaches left.

How does Miami Jackson not have enough kids to play and MNW and Miami Central JV teams have like 40+ kids on each so their in lies the problem...their are kids sitting the bench at mnw, central that can be playing at miami jackson right now getting reps but choose not to and front run at MNW .Miami Central or whatever big name schools. Then the "BIG NAME COACHES" wont take the jackson job as they dont want to build anything they themselves are front running at the big schools with their 20 plus staffs of recruiting coaches from the parks and get back coaches.

Jackson had some very good teams in the late 90s but that was largely an aberration.

Coach Drummond elevated the program well beyond what it was historically.

When BTW opened/re-opened, it siphoned off many players from the former district boundaries of Jackson and Miami High.
