Transfer portal season is off and running in college basketball. Miami is on the hunt for roster help after losing a bunch of players. Guard targets keep emerging for the Hurricanes.

Furman guard Alex Wilkins was a one-and-done for the Paladins after entering the transfer portal following his first Collegiate season. Wilkins is receiving a bunch of interest; Miami is one of seventeen programs to contact the transfer with three years of eligibility left.

He shot .328 from three. Don’t we need spacers to pair with Cyril, Gaskins, and Henderson? Acaden Lewis shot .270 from three. Seems like we’re gonna get to March and have the same problems.

Seems like you should let the staff build the roster before jumping to conclusions chief

Yeah you’re probably right. I’m just looking at the numbers of the guys we’re talking to and wondering whether they’ll be good fits. Otherwise why talk to them at all. We already have enough guys that don’t shoot and we’re not bringing in a top 50 player for spot minutes off the bench.

Because there is no guarantee that Gaskins and Allen are starting next year. You’re making a ton of assumptions

I’m assuming Allen, Gaskins, and Henderson are all going to play at least 25 mpg. But you’re right, I just have to wait to see who we get and what the rotations look like. I’m sure the staff knows we need shooters, and if they have other plans then I’ll have to just trust it and let it play out.

Assuming he's good to go I think Marcus Allen was on pace to be one of our go to shooters from 3, so expect bigger things there.

If he sticks around, gonna need more from Timo than we got as a 3P specialist. I think the game just moved too fast for him. Maybe he can get up to the 37% range he was at in the ABA.

Dante Allen shot 38.5% from 3 in March. His other splits from 3 are promising as well and I think the potential is there (40% from 3 in away games, 39% in neutral site games, but only 25% in home games and then 39.5% from 3 as a starter but only 22.9% as a reserve). Everything points to Dante Allen being a 38-40% 3P shooter going forward.

I would like the staff to keep Timo around for spot minutes given his size and shooting ability, but don’t think he should be part of the core rotation. He regressed quite a bit with his shooting as the year went on but still finished around 33%, so really no reason to believe he can’t bump that up to 35-36% on a few attempts a game.

Allen is really interesting. He was a 40% 3 pt shooter as a freshman at Mizzou and was well on his way there last year. It's just really hard to project where he will be in the fall given his recovery.
