“Of all the jobs that will open up --- I don’t know if USC will --- the best job out is this one [because] you can compete for the national championship,” Jankovich said.

Sam ain't lyin.

Kid I have known all his life played for Bama a couple of years when Shula was there told me Shula was too soft. He is a very good Assistant coach but does not have the personality to be the head guy. He is not the right choice but could be a serious threat to get the job.
Perfect personality for blake. Does anyone think Blake wants to deal with an alpha male at work? He already deals with one at home. He will look and find the least alpha male there is.

Both Chud and Shula seem like very bland, boring, Golden-like personalities. Part of the reason why Herman is such a popular candidate among smart fans is that he's the polar opposite of Golden, demands greatness, and brings intensity. Miami football needs to stop running from its image and embrace having attitude again.

If Chud or Shula are hired, you can bet your *** South Florida savages will continue staying the f*** away from this program. Both would be massive letdowns and neither one of them would move the needle for anyone.

Yep. Wouldnt be surprised if he's looking for a golden clone. That good guy image that's just nice but can't coach to save his life. It's probably what he's comfortable with.

If we want real, alpha coaches then get a real, alpha AD.

Among high-level Board of Trustee members, there is support internally for Chudzinski, Schiano and Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator and former Alabama coach Mike Shula. But this is James’ decision.

Groan!

I agree with Jankovich on just about everything except for the following:

"He does like some of the candidates with UM ties, including Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal, because “if you are around Nick Saban, you are going to learn to be a great coach. You look at Jim McElwain [at Florida] as an example.”"

Kiffin looks like he's regressed as an offensive coordinator while under Saban. His offenses at USC were alot more fluid then they are at Bama. Yes, USC had recruited better QB's than Bama, but you play to the strengths of the players you recruited, and Bama's been getting top 5 classes for the last 4 years now. They have no consistency running the ball outside of Derrick Henry because the O-line is sub par - which is coached by none other than Cristobal.

I agree on all his points.

1. Don't limit yourself to coaches with Miami ties.. That would be asinine. Howard, JJ, DE didn't have UM ties. Shannon did. More than anything what you are looking for in a coach that doesn't have UM ties is that he has/displayed the "Miami Mentality",
"Persona", etc..Herman clearly does.

2. DOn't rule out coaches from mid-majors. A lot of the big name college coaches came from Mid-Majors. Urban being one of them. Again, Herman, Fuentes look to be home-run mid major hires for whatever big name program goes after them, and they will.

3. Don't get emotionally involved. Butch and Schiano would be emotional hires. Last emotional hire, "Son of Miami" Shannon was a disaster.

4. Last one is reach out to everyone. Although I would caution against this as coaches that have already proven themselves can sometimes lack the motivation that an up and comer has who is out to prove something. Richt, Stoops come to mind. Make no bones about it, the next coach is going to have to coach as if his career depended on it and with a chip on his shoulder. This program needs that kind of mentality to get us back to where we need to be.

Lastly a word on personality.. The last thing this program needs is an abrasive polarizing figure who is going to have as many enemies as he does friends. And for some reason guys like Schiano and Cristobal strike me as guys that fit that mold. And for that reason I have them low on my wish list.

This is why a competent AD should make hiring decisions, not a bunch of clowns on the Board. Sweet Jesus what a horror show their list is.

And I agree with Sam. We should make people tell us no. Offer big money to Patterson, Dantonio, Briles, Richt, Mullen, etc. and get the **** out of this mindset that we have to hire a former UM coach.

That's what I have been saying all along, make these coaches tell you "no." "Chris Petersen won't leave the west coast," "Charlie Strong won't leave all that money at Texas," etc. How do you know if you don't inquire? Eff that, I'm calling everyone's agent if I'm Blake James. From Urban to Saban to Briles. Miami is a sleeping giant and all it takes is the right coach. Our haters know this and that's why they have come out in full force to say how much our program sucks. Tannebaum, Kanell, Dabo, Jimbo, etc. are all nervous right now; hence, their reactions.

Couple things for Sam. JJ sucked at first, losing first 3 Bowl games including two NC games. Oh, BUTCH DAVIS recruited JJ's teams. Second BUTCH DAVIS recruited the team Dennis won 3 NCs with. So, BUTCH DAVIS recruited the teams that won AL THREE of Sam's NC. Give the proper respect. What did Sam accomplish after he left the comfortable confines of Butch's recruiting?

Oh, as I recall JJ's version of his hiring, it was more like Coach L. Sam ran into him in an elevator and asked if some OTHER coach would like the water. JJ said "I like the water! Offer me the job." Dennis left us in a mess that Butch then cleaned up. Result ooops ANOTHER NC! Without Butch Davis we might only have ONE NC. So stop talking crap and HIRE BUTCH>

Very good points. Basically, Butch recruited 4 out of our five national titles.
