Miami is closing in on another defensive staff addition.

According to 247Sports, the Hurricanes are expected to hire Kansas assistant Matt Birkett.

 

 

 

I think it’s very important not only to Mario but finally the administration to keep the best coaching staff together as long as possible. The health system at UM is paying all the bills now. There is plenty of money for all things university related.

Alumni and boosters are now no longer being asked for buildings and huge university project donations but rather NIL. You’ll still have donors that want their name on legacy projects but the university is not as desperate as they were prior to Covid. Covid paid a lot of bills and allowed UM to let that money make it money.

I completely agree. How many times over the past 20+ years did we as Canes fans want to see a coordinator or head coach hired because they were a Miami guy? Not necessarily alumni or former player, but a guy who came from a Miami coaching tree. Those guys are all gone now (Butch, Schiano, et al)

We're getting close to a point where both Dawson and Heatherman will have careers defined by their work at UM versus any other stop along their path. As Mario continues to build and maintain his staff, this will continue to grow. This is where we'll get future coordinators and/or head coaches after Mario leaves/retires.
