Miami baseball came through with a clean sweep of Lehigh this week, but even with the wins, the Hurricanes dropped a spot in the latest D1Baseball rankings. They’re now sitting at No. 23, down from No. 22 last week.

The ACC is loaded this season, and Miami is the eighth team from the conference to make the top-25. Ahead of them are Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Louisville, Florida State, NC State, Clemson, and Wake Forest. Miami rounds out the group.

After sweeping Lehigh, the Hurricanes...

UF squeaks by UAB for the series win after losing the home opener and moves up one spot. We blow out Lehigh for three games and move down one spot. Same is true for a few teams ranked ahead of us. Make it make sense.
You can’t… honestly would be surprised if the supposed voters even watch or look at more than 5 games…

Ain’t no way we should have dropped

Ngl, I was very perplexed to see we dropped. We scored the most runs of any team all weekend. Teams ahead of us lost. Doesn't make any sense

I would imagine their drop was based on the concern most of us have. The offense? Maybe as good as we hoped. The pitching? Maybe as rough as we feared.
I can almost guarantee you they didn’t put that much thought into it.

D1 has spent years creating an elaborate set of rules (“poll mechanics”) that they can’t point to every time a coach or SID wants to yell at them about their rankings. Same reason they call almost every hire a home run.

I haven’t bothered to look at it, but I’m going to guess someone jumped up after a big weekend at one of the neutral site events, and they rode poll mechanics the rest of the way refusing to move teams down.

TL;DR I find their in-season rankings pretty worthless.

If they aren’t watching the football games you can bet your sweet *** voters aren’t watching all the baseball games

Polls are trash, and should carry NO weight whatsoever. There is no way anyone can be objective without watching every team play every game. They can't. So, they look at a few wins, losses, and a handful of boxscores. It's pure idiocy to have rankings because of this. I feel the same about football polls.

Louisville still ranked #15 despite losing 2 of 3 at home to Michigan State. Only team in the top 25 with a losing record.

Nice to see the baseball polls are no different than the football polls.
