Let’s not sugarcoat any of this. Your University of Miami Hurricanes basketball squad was embarrassed inside Spectrum Center today against the Virginia Cavaliers.
Miami basketball took on the Cavaliers of Virginia on Friday afternoon, where the Hurricanes fell to Ryan Odom’s Virginia team, 84-62. Miami was point-blank blown out, embarrassed, just everything in that category.
Miami was very sloppy from start to finish, and didn’t seem like they ever showed up inside Spectrum Center all day. It looked like Miami didn’t want to be there. Miami didn’t play for the team or the name on the front of the jersey. I don’t know what team I saw out there today at Spectrum Center, but it wasn’t Jai Lucas’s 2025-26 team I’ve watched this season.
This all started well for the majority of the first half. Miami couldn't hit anything from deep, starting out 0–8 from behind the arc, but Miami also got dominated on the rebounds 38–26. The big killer was that the Hurricanes gave up 12 offensive boards, which led to 14 second-chance points.
Tru Washington led the Hurricanes with 13 points, while Henderson added 12. Malik Reneau also added with eight points. But really, neither of them were there on every possession.
Miami and Jai Lucas will now reset and sit at home tomorrow, wondering where they will land in the March Madness Bracket on Sunday.
