Miami Defense

I mean I know what hetherman likes to play. He is a zone defense guy. He loves cover 3. They were only 43rd in pass D last year. It isn’t bad but kind of average. And even last year all the short stuff was there for offenses to take. You saw it vs louisville and smu. It could be a thing of where the guys just aren’t that good in zone. Indiana runs a similar scheme as there DC was under hetherman with cignetti at jmu and they run heavy zone too but seem to be better at it

Oversimplification

Our rush defense was elite and we played with a lead most of the season.

A majority of teams pass yards came in the fourth quarter, and our pass efficiency increased during these times. Our pass defense efficiency was in the 20s despite overall in yards being in the 40s. Which means, the yards were a result of volume not success.
Exactly that’s the point. I think the frustration from the fans come from the how the short stuff is consistently open as I said like Louisville and smu last year. I get that’s the plan to not give up the explosives and force the offense to have to drive the field but it does get irritating to watch at times especially on 3rd downs

Biggest issue last night was 3rd and long (7+) defense. We only forced one 3 and out, but we gave up 3 third and longs on the third play of 3 other drives (we also gave up some other 3rd and longs and the 4th and short when Hetherman wanted to kill some people who screwed up the coverage, lol). We forced 4, 3 & outs in each of our first 3 FBS games. We easily could have done that against Clemson. A lot of credit to their QB for extending plays, but I am sure some people screwed stuff up in coverage as well.

People get annoyed with the bend but don't break defense within the game but it ******* works, just like it did last year. Teams cant seem to drive the whole field without getting negative plays from pur defensove line.

Then the second we consistently play press man with our FS and 6th string CB against those NFL WRs last night and get beat for 6 then the tears and complaints would be stronger.

They scored 1 TD. Again, Hetherman knows what he is doing. The people complaining in the game thread saying they don’t like his scheme/style from their couch, don’t.
For me it isn’t even about playing heavy man. Press out of the cover 3 looks and don’t just give the wrs a free 5-7 yards

Pressing out of Cover 3 demands pristine footwork or you’re giving up 6 over the exposed deep 3rd.

it’s literally the exact con of running heavy man

We get lost in coverage way to easy though man🤦🏾‍♂️
3 Of top 4 corners out man. Every team would have issues without 3 of their 4 corners and having to move your best safety to corner.
Bruh you don’t have to explain this. We got safeties playing corner, if anyone follows the team they should know this. It’s crazy that this has to be said, to me it showed how good this team is. This is the first game that we looked like the playoff team from last season

😂😂 the team is good we know this

Given the level of injuries this defense is performing really well. Bye week couldn’t come at a better time. Really looking forward to seeing this defense with Lucas back.

not directed at you, you having to reply to someone who said we give up yards. It is more directed at them lol my bad, we have guys in wheelchairs playing in the secondary and then you go on CIS and see posts like "why the secondary looks bad"

All the people complaining know nothing about football and probably never played the game. At this point I just ignore them because they don’t shut up, but it’s as clear as day They don’t know anything about this game.

It’s pretty clear Fitzgerald isn’t a corner. Not ****ting on the kid, but he was being abused out there. He’s just forced into it with all the injuries.

Felt like Hetherman is ok playing soft coverage and waiting for the field to condense or get in advantageous third down situations. Get the DBs healthy and I think it’ll change. And once that happens, we can move guys like Fitz back into their normal positions. Fixing some of these issues. Sure S depth hasn’t been bit yet by the injuries but forcing them to fill at CB is impacting hoe they can play the deep half.
Correct about Heatherman game theory . And it works.

Let me repeat this again because clearly you’re either a moron or retarded. We are down three top cornerbacks. Actually let me say it again this time with The and explanation point. We are down three top cornerbacks! So, yeah, the coverage might be a little different right now sport. Let’s see what the coverage looks like when we get our top three quarterbacks back. ****, dude, what is wrong with you?
What’s also not being talked about being down 3 corners. That also put the team down a starting safety/nickel and forced a true freshman into a starting role.

Those 3 injuries completely disrupted the entire secondary.

And they STILL managed to be the #2 scoring defense in the nation, that’s insane.

That’s what happens when you blitz. If you could bring extra pressure and still have every single receiver covered like a blanket, you’d have the greatest defense in the history of time.

So you have to make a choice. Don’t bring pressure and hope your defensive backs can lock on coverage for a long time or bring extra heat and make the quarterback make the quick decision every time. We don’t exactly have the lockdown cornerbacks right now to just sit in coverage.
If it were true fire zones that matched, windows would be tighter
