Miami Defense

Honestly it was one broken tackle that went for what 80?

Another super solid Heatherman called defense… let the Dline work. Play the bend don’t break and then stiffen in the red zone.
Thornton continues to be an issue both in coverage and in space.

When Lucas and Jaboire come back, I hope Heatherman moves Bryce to nickel like we saw last year when Scott went down.

😂 so that zone coverage don’t scare you huh
Let me repeat this again because clearly you’re either a moron or retarded. We are down three top cornerbacks. Actually let me say it again this time with The and explanation point. We are down three top cornerbacks! So, yeah, the coverage might be a little different right now sport. Let’s see what the coverage looks like when we get our top three quarterbacks back. ****, dude, what is wrong with you?

They prob had 100-125 yards in passing on plays that Reynolds extended. Kid was running for his life all night and made a few plays (and got away with 1-2 as well)

It was a really impressive outing like others have said considering how we are patchwork things together with the injury bug. Keep winning, get healthy, and keep getting some of these young guys burn and we will be scary down the stretch.

Corey Heatherman is calling the defense perfectly considering our injuries and personnel.

First and foremost, stop the run on early downs.

Force the opponent to pass but don’t let the QB have time to scan the field and let receivers get open downfield. Bring pressure if you have to every down. Make the QB choose the check down every time or make him run for his life.

Play mostly off coverage, keep the offense in front of you and make the tackle with minimal yac. (We can’t get super aggressive with our coverage considering we’re starting CB4 and a safety at cornerback.) Make the offense execute long drives and convert third downs.

If the offense reaches the extended red zone (around the 30) get more aggressive with your coverage. Since getting beat deep isn’t an issue. Hold the opponent to field goal attempts.

Even if the opponent moves the ball between the 20s, giving up five field goals and zero touchdowns means you’re going to win the game.

We get a bit more aggressive in coverage on third and longs but I see us doing more of that as we start getting corners back from injury.
Yeha I think overall the scheme worked well. What we need to clean up is the tackling. It hurt us against L’ville when short throw to Chris Bell followed by whiffs led to a TD. It happened again today with Clemson.

By shutting down the run and with guys like Wilson and Lightfoot we’re going to get a lot of sacks and plays behind the LOS. We were in the backfield all night tonight but missed some opportunities not finishing plays. Better teams will make us pay if we don’t clean that up.

CIS Threads are like being at a virtual bar with a bunch of other Canes fans, talking football, saying crazy ****, until a brawl breaks out between two other patrons & takes over the discussion eventually for the rest of the week because the Maudes are absolute sickos and love to see ******** beat each other to an absolute pulp.

It’s very hard to get over some of the stuff you see. And you’re comparing it last year as well.

With that being said, they’re getting the job done where it matters. On the scoreboard. All while being very short handed. Tip your cap to them.

Our zone defense is toast 🤷🏾‍♂️😂

For Miami Hurricanes, the defense currently looks like this:

Defensive category
Miami
National rank
Total Defense224.5 yds/game#2
Rushing Defense39.5 yds/game#1
Scoring Defense9.0 pts/game#4
Yards per play allowed3.99Top 5
Passing Defense~185 yds/gameTop 50-ish
Opponent TDs4 through 4 gamesElite
The NCAA’s official statistics had Miami #2 nationally in total defense, behind Notre Dame, at 224.5 yards allowed per game entering the Clemson game.
The most eye-opening number is the run defense: Miami was #1 nationally at just 39.5 rushing yards allowed per game, with opponents averaging only 1.86 yards per carry and zero rushing TDs through four games.
And now Miami has added the Clemson performance: Clemson managed only 350 total yards on 75 plays, just 4.7 yards/play, while turning the ball over twice.

Hetherman is literally coaching this defense with duct tape and super glue considering the injuries to the secondary. This has to be one of the best coaching jobs we've seen.

People here hate the bend and not break defense because it gives them Al Golden and Mark D'onofrio PTSD, but more often than not, Hetherman has made it work, shockingly so.
It has elements of the Wefense, but it brings pressure 1000x more lol. It’s aggressive on the front end but loose on the back end - pause. If this team was better at tackling(on the back end) like last year’s team this defense would be INSANE!! I get that guys are missing but that’s not an excuse for missing tackles. 0 and 7 and the corners are just missing too many tackles.

3 Of top 4 corners out man. Every team would have issues without 3 of their 4 corners and having to move your best safety to corner.
This will pay dividends once everyone is back healthy. Still I’d rather see more Day out there than Thornton. Omar cannot tackle at all

What can Thornton do? Seems to me he's a good blitzer off the edge (although doesn't break down when he gets there) and there's little else to his game. Can't tackle. Can't cover.

That's exactly what he was brought in to do lmao

He was never a coverage S at BC. Injuries have forced our hand
