Miami Defense

Honestly it was one broken tackle that went for what 80?

Another super solid Heatherman called defense… let the Dline work. Play the bend don’t break and then stiffen in the red zone.
Yes, they wouldn't have scored a TD without that play. Hard to argue with the results - other team often failing to score multiple touchdowns - of Hetherman's defense, but what the **** do I know?

I only want to see Thorton blitzing ..in coverage he’s bbq chicken lol ..did anybody notice Damari Brown got benched after he gave up that 3rd down catch
Good would rather see seatbelt get some snaps and learn. Hate seeing older players who have proven they can’t get the job done keep getting run out there stealing reps from younger players

Thornton never got subbed out this game. I'd guess we had him at safety more than first 4 games specifically because Clemson doesn't pass past like 10 yards usually... but idk. But I don't like it. He needs to stop trying to give people concussions and learn to wrap up. Our Edges needs to learn to tackle too. Between last year and this year we have so many missed sacks, it's baffling.

Dylan Day played like 70% of snaps.

Damari played like the 2nd/3rd drive then was out rest of game. Ryan Mack has now passed him on Depth Chart.

Definitely best game Chase Smith has had here. Having him and Toure on field together is still a problem. And I'd bet also contributed to Clemson actually passing on us pretty well. Between Smith, Toure, and Thornton all on field together, that's a bad recipe in coverage, especially when you're down to CB 6 and a converted Safety (well 5 now) getting most of the snaps.

Not a dominating performance, but a very good performance overall considering all the injuries. I would have liked to have seen our 3rd down defense do better. Clemson ended up 8-18 on 3rd down conversions, but they were around 50% all game until the 4th qtr. A handful of those 3rd down conversions were 3rd and very long.

Tackling was so-so. Feel like we were aggressive and swarming to the ball, but missed a lot of open field tackles and easy sacks on the qb. Clemson had to work for everything. If we missed a tackle, usually had another defender right there so yards were tough to come by. D-line was unblockable by the 4th qtr.

Overall, happy with the performance. We need our starters back in a bad way and this defense can be borderline elite.
