I agree, but look at the situation: true freshman QB (who I frankly think isn’t very good) making his first road start on a full cross-country trip and a short week.

I would be surprised if Clemson packed it in. One thing Dabo has definitely kept up despite the clear decline at Clemson is their team culture. They haven’t just “quit” after bad starts, even last year.

I’m sure we’ll get their best effort regardless and it might even be a single score margin, But I still expect to us win the game.

Why not? SOS?

Losing to Cal means Clemson starts to lose hope. Deepens the “Dabo must go” rhetoric. Causes players to lose confidence and creates a sense that the season is over. On the other hand, a win on the road builds confidence. It fosters hope that a win against a Top 5 opponent puts them right back in the limelight and allows them to control their destiny to the ACC Championship game.

I want Cal to win. I will take any advantage that I can get playing in a difficult environment. Gimme a Clemson loss on the road at Cal with a long flight back home.

We dont want a noon game for three reasons:

First and foremost, Im going to the game. I demand the full night game experience. Going to a noon road game sucks. Cannot tailgate. Cannot truly enjoy the stadium atmosphere. We have to focus on what's important here. :cool:
(Jokes aside, I tend to think noon road games are tougher on the players than a night game. Its basically a breakfast game. Tough to get fully hyped at 11:45AM.


Second - Strength of schedule. The Clemson name carries weight. If both Clemson and Wake finish 8-4, a subset of voters will think more highly of the Clemson win, even more so if its a night game.


Third: (nuance take): A night game gives us a ton more exposure than a noon game. Im a bit concerned about Miami's viewing numbers for this season. Last season we were top five in CFB in total viewership but had games with USF, UF, and ND. We also played FSU before the collapse (in a night game). Our schedule this season is not conducive to a lot of high viewership games. We need the Clemson game to carry some weight.

Been twice. Very nice fans was my experience, even the time we won. The area is very congested and in and out is crazy. Need canes to win so their fans start exiting early and Canes fans can linger, enjoy and have an easier exit.

BTW, we are 7-7 overall vs Clemson.

I’m going to the game as well. I agree that nooners suck for tailgating. But just think about the massive smile on your face at the ESSO Bar (or any of the other local bars near campus) as you bask in the glory of winning while watching the afternoon + night games from your comfy chair at the bar.

Your remaining points are valid but do not outweigh the impact on Clemson if they lose the game to Cal. I’m greedy. I want every advantage possible. IMHO winning cancels the potential ancillary, intangible benefits you mentioned.

Let’s a grab a beer after the game!

I think that line speaks to how quickly Miami has made necessary adjustments. Two years ago, we never made the correct ones once defense was figured out (Cal game), Lost twice after that.

Last year it took a couple losses before we let it rip.

Now… I think Mario is getting faster at identifying the problems and he’s getting better about making the tough calls.

So while line says we won’t have made the necessary changes by then, I think we will and will cover that line with plenty of room to spare.

The line to watch is the one that comes out Sunday evening, but I would expect it to be Miami about -6 to 7 regardless of the Cal result.

FWIW, Clemson has not lost a game in Death Valley by more than 12 points in the last 12 years. Alabama might be the only other team that can claim that.
 
Is there actually anywhere that -7 is available, or is espn just still showing a line put out during the offseason? I keep seeing it referenced.
