Yeah, but we weren't elite then. An unsustainable turnover ratio was masking some major issues that season.
We weren’t elite in 2005 either.

I've had a lot of wild times at Radford!I was at this game. My fraternity worked concessions at VT games for fundraising (I went to close by Radford).
That place was POPPIN pre game...stealth bombers and some of the loudest fireworks I have ever heard in my life. Place was the definition of home field advantage...didn’t matter one lick. The Miami fans there were so loud after the game and all the VT fans were silent. Wonderful
Yea I felt pretty good that night too but the difference was and the main part of my point is after the vtech game it really looked like wright was gonna live up to the #1 recruit Gatorade national football player of the year and become the best QB In CFB. And if that would have happened who knows how far he could’ve led us. Now with ND I don’t think any of us left that game no matter how big the win was thinking that rosier was going to lead us to the promise land. Now both seasons ended up being smoke and mirrors but you see my point.Miami best the living **** out of ND two years ago. We looked elite that night and the playoff committee agreed.
it was also 20% of his entire season...he had a great day.Charlie Jones had 97 yards rushing. That's the same amount of yards that Vick had combined passing/rushing.
Decided to do some day drinking and watch this game...
Can we get back to this please. Love shutting up the whole darn stadium!!!
Excellent post.I kept that game on my DVR for years. Dennis Dodd of CBS buried the Canes week-of, saying that No. 5 Miami was done and that No. 3 Virginia Tech was going to clobber them. I hammered him in an article that week, called for UM to upset VT and loved seeing him with egg on his face the following week when he had to eat his words.
Not much of an offensive performance out of the Canes—304 total yards in a balanced effort—but the defense just swarmed the Hokies and Marcus Vick, forcing eight turnovers.
When the Canes recovered that fumble in the end zone late in the third to go up 27-0—best feeling in the world. Especially after them thinking they were hot **** and were going to roll heads after that "Enter Sandman" entrance that ESPN covered like it was a rock show.
Miami should've won its first Coastal title that year and had a rematch with Florida State, but blew that 14-10 rescheduled game at the Orange Bowl against Georgia Tech. Offense was a bit banged up and Jon Tenuta's defense shut them down. After losing to Florida State, 10-7 in the opener, everyone wanted that rematch—but it wasn't to be. Waxed in the Peach Bowl by LSU, 40-3 to end the season—Soldinger, Kehoe and a few others fired, leading town awful 2006 season (re: 7-6, Pata murdered, FIU on-field brawl, players suspended, almost losing to Duke, dropping opener to FSU, et al.)
Canes need to survive North Carolina early in the season as that October home stretch—Virginia Tech, Virginia and Georgia Tech—feels like it will dictate whether Miami wins the Coastal, or not.
