We've now entered the home stretch of the season with nine games in the record book. So how do the 2020 Hurricanes compare against teams past? Let's have a quick look:
Record: This is the only the 3rd time that Miami has started out 8-1. The previous two examples yielded records of 11-1 (2000) and 9-3 (2005)
Points For: This is the 7th highest scoring Canes team over nine games in the last 25 seasons, and the 3rd highest in the last 16 seasons
Point Allowed: While last night's shutout loss improved things, defensively only five other teams have allowed more points overall
However, let's isolate down to years where Miami played only Power 5 or Group of 5 opponents in its first nine games. That narrows the scope down considerably to just seven teams. When doing so this year's squad has scored the highest of those teams. Defensively it's the third worst, an improvement over the last time we looked at this and moving past the 2009 Hurricanes squad and just a few points away from the 2007 version.
