No "oops" about it. Have not had confidence in UM's ability to win since the Ga Tech game. Yesterday was A VERY REFRESHING CHANGE and a very welcome one for sure.
TVD stated early in the week that he had a discussion with Dawson regarding plays he felt comfortable with and tempo and NOW felt more comfortable running Dawson's offense than any time this season. Yesterday we saw refreshing play calling ... TE's actually involved in the passing game, WR screens, some motion, RB's catching out of the back field, some vertical shots (mostly to #7 in coverage even though other WRs were uncovered for larger gains or even a TD). Question #1 is WHY did Dawson / TVD wait until game #12 to have this discussion and start working on a game plan that the QB actually felt comfortable with? Question #2 is NOW THAT TVD feels comfortable in the Dawson offense, will he opt to return for 2024 to have what could be a stellar senior year?
In spite of basically a 6 game drought of horrific offensive execution (combination of Dawson play calling and TVD execution) the offensive stats SHOULD INDICATE to an elite WR that he can be very successful at UM and have a great career to prepare him for the NFL.
2023 offensive stats:
-Total passing: 405 attempts / 263 completions 3173 yards and 22 TD's
-Total rushing: 408 rushes for 2121 yards and 22 TD's
-Leading WR's
-Restrepo 993 yards
-George 851 yards
-Young 563 yards
-B. Smith 263 yards
There is no reason why, in 2024, with the addition of 2 stud outside WR's that UM should not have two 1000 yard WR's and another with 750, without having any fall off in rushing production.
Was great to have a game, finally, that I can actually look forward to watching re-runs of.
