Miami 2007-2017 Putting all your eggs in 1 or few baskets...

-Jacory harris
- Northwestern class.

I'm a late in life teacher, it worked with a schedule I had with a summer Windjammer business I owned in Maine. My foot in the door was a Behavioral Unit with kids who had learning or behavioral issues. The woman I took over for, had come from Miami the year before and was heading back to take another job there.

When we got chatting about Miami from my yacht days, I mentioned I was a Cane's fan. She said "Oh I had 6 kids who went on to play for the Hurricanes from the unit I taught at Northwestern.

We also had a kid come out of our unit in my school who led the state in rushing, won the 100 meters his Junior year (didn't go out for track his Sr year) and broke the state record for TDs. His first touch for Clemson was a 75 yard TD run. A freak athletically; not a bad kid didn't get in trouble. He just wasn't equipped with the coping skills to function in a highly structured environment. Heartbreaking that some of these kids get so close.

Harder to get kids to wait now though..
It’s certainly a different game today. Those old QBs knew their roles, didn’t mind waiting their turn and all were true leaders on and off the field. Today’s kids are looking for instant gratification. Our 10 year run (83-92) can rival any in the history of the modern game

No other QBs film comes close to Martell's. Will he have to work for it? Of course and he should be expected to but he is far and away the best talent we've had at QB as far back as I can remember. He is virtually a clone of the last few Heisman winners! So much is riding on this waiver!
Disagree, if he wins the job I'll buy. But like I said if he's given the job...Sell all day
And prep for our next HC.

Good point! In the day we had A pipeline in waiting.
Kelly/ Kosar waiting
Bernie/ Walsh waiting
Steve/Craig waiting
Craig/Gino waiting.
That’s how we became QBU and won 4 NCs in that 10 year period
It was testaverde between kosar and walsh.even though testaverde didn't win a championship he still won a heisman our first.

Say what you want about our failure at the qb position the last 15 years.but does the blame belong to the players not being good enough or the coaching that didn't develop them properly nor prepared them for game day situations they'd face.Like reading coverages pre snap, the not receivers on a blitz or checking current called play into another play based upon defense alignment.

You left out this one guy. He won our first Heisman and led us to two NC games that JJ wasn’t coach enough to win. I’ll leave you to fix it. Hint, he played before Bernie but was the his replacement.

Crap coaching and a mediocre system has been a big part of it. Not many of those qbs got better from one year tonthe next
I can’t wait to see what Enos does w the cats we have!!!

Already corrected earlier in the thread. Needed another coffee!

Competition brings out the best in everyone. Should be more of it and at as many positions as we can. Nobody’s job should be safe, and with this much competition, it’s easy to bring the next man in if the other just ain’t doing it.

Tate is the best QB in the QB room. Personality + talent that Miami has needed at the QB position for a while now. When he becomes eligible, I expect him to start and I expect us to win big.
When was the last time we ever had a true duel threat qb. If tate is that guy, which I hope and think he is, we will seriously be a problem.

Exactly. Not only is he dual-threat but he has the personality to match. His whole swag screams Miami. Seems like Tate would embrace the villain role that The U is known for and let Trevor Lawrence play the good guy. Ratings for daysss

I'm not sure those are cases of putting all your eggs in one basket. Harris maybe, because Randy made it clear that he wasn't going to bother recruiting another QB to challenge him. Randy was going to slide seamlessly from Jacory to Teddy Bridgewater but of course, that never happened. That's how Miami got stuck with Morris and the nobody else. By the time Morris (who turned out to be a lot better player than most thought he'd be) graduated. They had two upperclassmen transfers in William's and Heaps and a freshman Kaaya. After that they had Jack Allison on deck and with Perry and Weldon already signed on, they still brought in Williams. There's been some poor planning and some guys they were depending on left (Kaaya and Allison) but the QB depth wasn't always a big issue. Most schools don't have more than 3 scholarship QBs at one time. The turnover rate is so high at that position and using a bunch of scholarships on guys who may never play isn't a great move.

The days of kids coming in knowing they won't start until JR year are over. It is what it is.
