Miami’s 2nd ACC game of season under Mario

I would love to have a stress free run in to the playoff, but it is hard to get 20 year olds to do that every week. NFL players can’t get up every week, and they are older, more mature and spend way more time on it.

We are significantly more talented than the teams we will play, but Michigan was more talented than Western too.

I am not an advocate for the playoff, and I hate preseason and early season rankings, but what it does do for us, particularly this year is mean that we could lose ND close, drop an ACC game close, and still get in. In the past these losses as favourites have meant the end of our seasons, this year it isn’t going to do that. So there is less stress on that.

2022 - W - held on for a win against a bad VT team that lost its 4th in a row. We jumped out 20-0 before allowing VT to get to 20-14 with the ball and a chance to win. Set a season high in penalties

2023 - L - after a crushing defeat to GT the week before we had to have this UNC game. We played well in the 1st half but were outscored 21-0 in the 3rd quarter to end the game. Set a season high in turnovers

2024 - W- went out to Cal after escaping VT on the crazy Hail Mary. Looked like the game was lost before a dramatic 25 point comeback. Won by 1 point. Lucky to escape but this game showed the path to beat us and that our D was bad. Set a season high in penalties

2025 - L - after looking like the best team in the country for 3 quarters the week before against FSU we came home and laid a huge egg against Louisville. The team could not get out its own way all night. Had a chance to win but a 4th turnover was the end. Set a season high in turnovers.

This season is a little different because it’s the first time Mario has started the year with an ACC game and also had a second one so early in the season. History shows the second ACC game is always tougher than we expect and we usually cause that by shooting ourselves in the foot. Let’s hope Friday this team proves to be different.

I have not been present for a road win since 2007 @FSU. Notable awful experiences like ND at soldier field, Teddy Bridgewater in Orlando, and UF multiple times.

Last season, traveled to Dallas for 24 hours explicitly to break the streak, and stood in the rain during pre-game wondering if I should go back to the hotel.

So we’ve got that going against us. Let’s break this f’in streak.

****… I was at both of them too.. Actually I think I met you briefly in Chicago. Tailgated with some UM golfers and think we met before going in the stadium, think we were talking about Dalvin Cook/Yearby lmao. Can remember the convo but not the golfers names😂
 
the real correlation wasn’t that it was our 2nd ACC game, all of those were our SIXTH game of the year. EVERY single year. Sixth game would a mess for us. Teams found out our tendencies and Mario was too slow to adapt.

Michigan lost to Western Michigan because they have an incompetent QB. Luckily, Miami doesn't have that issue.

We cannot drop an ACC game. The only way we can drop an ACC game and make the playoffs is if losing said game doesn't eliminate us from the ACCCG. We have to win the conference to make the playoffs. ESPN through their talking heads has already started the campaign that Miami due to its schedule doesn't belong in the playoff picture unless it outright wins the conference.

Miami needs to be perfect and to secure a top 4 seed Miami needs to win pretty. Mario and Dawson need to run the scores up on conference foes

Respectfully, I disagree. Early rankings and recent history matter. Miami was not a playoff team until the final bell last year and the narrative was the same. Mario loses games he shouldn’t. A month after that, between Saban and Pate’s praise and the performance on the field we are now annual contenders.

This has continued into this year, where our hot start on offence has lead to 2 heisman hopefuls and now Miami is the superpower it always threatened to be. The narrative has changed due to our most recent 6 games.

Hypothetically, We lose close on the road to ND, we drop a close one somewhere in ACC play, but we roll everybody else to the ACC championship, we are obviously in. They will explain that loss away.

I’m high on our Canes this year and I don’t think this will happen, but it also could and I still think the perception has changed. Teams fear that giant is awake and he is hungry. The media feels it, fans of the sport feel it, and that perception, rightly or wrongly, matters when it comes to the playoff.

😯, that streak is worse than mine. I had the UCF game in Orlando and Texas A&M in the middle of my streak. UNC, Louisville, Cincinnati, OSU, Oklahoma, ND(Chicago), LSU (Dallas), UF (Orlando)

My boss (ND fan) got tickets that Friday from his buddy and asked if I wanted to go since he knew I'm a Miami fan. Absolutely miserable experience. ******* Dorsett dropped two dimes from Morris.

Obviously, if we win the ACCCG we are in the playoffs due to the auto-bid.

We cannot afford to not win the ACC like last year. ESPN and their talking heads are already talking **** about our schedule and how we aren't a playoff team unless we win the conference

Insane, huh? My head almost exploded in the stands. On the Safety play, I saw Wilson getting held in the endzone, started yelling like a lunatic, calling for a Safety, then the ref threw the flag.

Except he went to go talk to the other ref and I had a straight up flashback to the SMU game last year (loss) where the ref took back the interference call on Marion. I started yelling like a traumatized lunatic and I could see people turning around to look at me. My skull has been throbbing since the game ended.

This is really not a healthy hobby.
