- Sticking with the wide receiver trend, Rochester (NY) James Madison wideout Messiah Hampton was representing Miami with his wardrobe on Sunday. He plans to be back on campus Monday for the first day of spring football.

Hampton told On3’s Chad Simmons on Sunday that he will visit Miami (May 30), Oregon (June 6), Ohio State (June 13) and USC (June 20). On top of that, he also plans to take OVs to Penn State, Syracuse and North Carolina but hasn’t set those dates yet.

Miami, Penn State, Ohio State and Syracuse have a great chance at getting one,” Hampton told On3. “Those schools make me feel special and I believe in their coaches, how they develop players and I have good relationships with coaches on each staff.”

Hampton added of the Hurricanes: “Coach KB (Kevin Beard) is a great dude who can not only coach receivers, but he is a coach who can help me grow spiritually and mentally. I really like him and trust his player development. Miami is a place I am getting back to soon.”

On3 MVP: WR Messiah Hampton

Messiah Hampton delivered a sensational performance at Under Armour Miami. Making the trek to South Florida from Rochester, New York, Hampton proved unguardable all afternoon. At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds with plus length, Hampton pairs his translatable size with advanced technical skills. He was dominant during 1-on-1’s showing the ability to win at levels of the field while winning the vast majority, if not all of his reps. We saw him separate vertically, showing top-end speed and the ability to tempo his routes. He later shook a Power 4 cornerback prospect with a nasty out-breaking comeback route. The play speed and slick routes combined with excellent ball skills. Hampton consistently framed his catches away from his body and tracked the ball effortlessly over his shoulder. He also showed the ability to fight through contact at the catch point. It’s not every day we see a prospect from upstate New York come down to South Florida and dominate, but the On3 Outlier left little doubt he was the On3 MVP by day’s end. A bevy of programs are in line to land an official visit from Hampton.

Hampton, the No. 122 overall prospect and No. 13 receiver in the On300 and a top-200 prospect in each of the four major recruiting services, told CaneSport Miami, Oregon and Syracuse have done the best jobs recruiting him this spring, although Ohio State has made an effort for him as well. Hampton has seen each school this spring and currently has official visits locked in with Miami, Oregon and Ohio State, although he plans to add an official visit to Syracuse too.

“I would say they’re all clumped together at the top,” Hampton said. “I plan on (announcing a decision in) July.”

“All of those schools, they all have great receiver coaches,” Hampton said. “They all had a good number of receivers in the (NFL) Combine this year. All of those schools are developing players the right way.”

8. WR Messiah Hampton

If anyone was a threat to Jalen Lott’s wow-factor on Saturday it was Messiah Hampton. The wideout from New York was displaying his wide catch radius all afternoon plucking nearly every pass away from his frame with ease. But his best catch of the day was a toe-tapping grab where he deadened his lower-half and dragged his feet on the sideline to reel in a first down grab. His loose hips and ability to separate allowed for Hampton to collect two touchdowns and a ton of first down catches on Day 1.

On3 MVP: WR Messiah Hampton

The 24K offense was essentially unstoppable all weekend long and the weapon that was the constant for their offense was Messiah Hampton. At every level of the field, Hampton was dominant. He was displaying every tool in the bag for the receiver position breaking off defenders at the top of his routes, attacking the football, and most importantly he was putting the ball in the paint. Hampton scored six total touchdowns over the weekend including two in the final game to seal the deal for 24K and earned themselves OT7 Golden Ticket Tournament bragging rights.
