MEGA Mega Merged Stadium Thread.

Look, the anti-stadium Mopes can run through the typical questions ("where will it be?", "who is going to pay for it?", etc.), but there is a reality that must be dealt with.

First...in order to have newer/nicer stuff, Miami (generally) is going to have to tear down older/crappier stuff...

...and...

Second...Miami (or the central part of Dade, not including Miami Beach or Aventura or Coral Gables) is falling farther and farther behind other southeastern cities in coming up with solutions to housing and traffic and commercial development and dining/entertainment/retail districts.

$5 billion. For 50 acres. Right next to both the football stadium and the basketball arena...but, sure, let's have a bunch of people whine about ROI...

So now the solution for the university with a measly $1B endowment is to become a commercial property developer? or are you expecting some donor developer to spend $5B to redevelop an area in Dade (not near campus once again) including a $1B+ gift to UM for a stadium so they can make money off the stadium (or are we once again going to be renting)?

Of course Rad is going to say he wants a new UM only stadium ... everyone wants that but it's not realistic and spending $1-2B of donor money on a stadium is a horrendous ROI.
Capital improvements and infrastructure projects aren’t “investments.” Im guessing Tennessee could put the 340 million they have earmarked for Neyland into one of your index funds and have a nice little nest egg in 20 years. Wont help their crumbling 80 year old stadium, but I guess it’d be nice knowing the money was there.

Maybe you’re just pearl clutching at the (made up) 1-2B price tag or you’re one of the eggheads who says any red cent spent on athletics is a waste of resources with no roi, in either case, be on your merry way - but I do hope to see you at RuizWorld ca. 2035.

You’re really good at …

A) changing the narrative to fit your argument. Capital improvements to 50+ year old state owned/funded facilities have no relevance to the UM situation.

B) thinking you are the smartest guy in the room. My guess is you’re an attorney with less than 10 yrs experience.

A) you guys like to say that, but its just vapid nonsense. Different because you say so. Ok. Money is money. Raise it. Buy it. Build it. Not rocket science. That argument hasn’t changed since my first post.

B) definitely not the smartest guy in the room. Especially wrt money. My old lady handles the finances, I get a meager allowance to fuel my gambling/narcotics habit. But, nonetheless, guilty as charged on part 2 of point b.

Of course, money is the only real obstacle, and if UM had access to unlimited funds the school could/should buy all the houses north of campus (200 +/-) and buy Riviera golf course west of campus and double in size. Buying up the land would probably be a great 50 year plan for UM .... the only problem is just that pesky $2B+ to do that when UM only has $1B in its endowment.

it is hard to take you seriously when you say that (a) rap is poetry, (b) you did a ton of blow/weed from 18-24, (c) your old lay handles YOUR finances, (d) your old lady provides you with a meager allowance and (e) your allowance is directed to gambling and narcotics.

wow. what an admission against interest! your altered state of reality is really altered.

Perhaps you were stuck in a glass case of emotion and did not have access to the middle part of the thread -but we've gone over this already. The school with 350 million for new dorms and 100 mill for a new athletics center and... has no money. OK. That's your opinion. Even if it were so, OK, raise more money. I know, I know - dorms are "different" and a stadium would be a "waste" - again, your opinion.

LOL - maybe. Or, I might be adding a little color to my prose. Though at least one of those is 100% true, I'll let you ponder which.

Also, I looked it up. The land at Magic City was sold for 96 million (not over a billion). You probably could've just cut a check.

lol it will take double what you said just to purchase the property. believe it or not, the people donating prefer to see the school use the money on improvement projects that enhance the existing campus (the dorms were a wreck and badly needed a remodel as students use those daily - im sure if you lived on campus you would have seen that) and the new IPF was literally jump started by richt who donated his own money into it. we arent saying were broke, but comparing hundreds of million in construction on existing land that we own vs 1.2 bill plus on new land that doesnt include construction costs is not in the same arena. also, have you ever been in a job where you had to fundraise? judging by your answers, i would say no. do me a favor, go do some work for a nonprofit where fundraising is king. get back to me once you do the work to see how hard it is to get people to give you money.

just fundraise like 5 year old in this thread keeps saying. im sure it wouldnt be hard to raise billions for a partial use stadium nowhere near campus. he may be a good guy but holy he sounds like a kid who never worked a day.

i dont recall my saying that it was sold for $1B.
the land is TOO small even with the shopping center in front of it

you are a kid living in an altered state of reality. our future is more bleak than what i previously thought.

I get it. You will keep making the labor pains > baby argument until you are sitting in section 305 of our new stadium. Cool.

Bro, u didn’t read the article u posted.

“Wind Creek Hospitality, which is owned by the Poarch Creeks, in 2019 purchased a Bethlehem, Pa. casino from Las Vegas Sands for $1.3 billion. Wind Creek also owns gambling facilities in Alabama, Chicago, Nevada, Aruba and Curacao.”

This is what @Ajcane8 is referring to:
