“I am always excited. You know, I love to do new things. If they told me to put my hand in the dirt, and rush the passer like that, you know, I would be excited for that,” McCloud said. “I actually, have been bugging them, kind of, to let me do something like that. But I am excited to do whatever I can to help the team. I know that is kind of like a really generic answer, but I really mean it when I say it.”

No clue how he would be as a third down end but it certainly would keep him on the field when we move to the striker package

Problem is we have some pretty **** good "dudes" putting their hands in the dirt already, and they've been doing it a long time.

He worked the first round pick Notre Dame tackle real bad in a pass rushing situation last year. He could thrive in a roll like that honestly rather then covering slot receivers on the regular .

I've been saying this for a minute now... him and Joyner are the Khalil Mack type of hybrid Linebackers... not saying theyre on that level but they need to play exactly like how Khalil Mack plays for Oakland in order to get the most out of their talent.

McCloud is big enough and talented enough to play as a rush DE... and he can play SLB but only down hill attacking the LOS.

That is the perfect way to have McCloud and Derrick Smith or Romeo Finley on the field at the same time.

4-2-5 = 4 D-line, 2 LB (Shaq and Pinckney) and 5 DBs. Where will McCloud be blitzing from?
Maybe stand him up at weakside in a NASCAR package and drop him sometimes with Garvin, Joe and Rousseau rushing, and Joe at 3tech casue he's 270, leaving all our linebackers on the field and bringing in a Striker, flats are covered with him dropping and Smith, Shaq and Pickney get the intermediate, just a thought 🤔

This. One position we have extreme talented players at is DE. I think be should rather learn MLB for next year in case Shaq and Pickney bounce.. love the kids attitude tho! Alot of young kids would pout about losing time to the 'striker' position.

Not NASCAR, call it Category 4 package

Call it what you want, and creativity is fine, but it would be malpractice to put Joe Jackson in the middle of the line. At least that would be my initial reaction.
EDIT: Not because JJ wouldn't do a fine job holding up the middle, but because he's just too **** good outside with his length and speed to stick in the middle of a crowd.

On the other hand...
Well, I was trying to find a picture of those old Rex Ryan Ravens defenses that would line up with like 8 guys all standing shoulder to shoulder at the line of scrimmage, no one with their hand on the ground. You never had any idea who was coming and who wasn't. Despite the aggressiveness, no one seemed to complete many long passes against that defense, there just wasn't time, too much uncertainty and too many dogs coming after the QB.

A 3-3-5 package by November

Rushers (only one with hand down): Garvin, Joe Jackson, D-Jax
Blitzers: Mccloud, Redwine/Quarterman
Coverage: Quarterman/Redwine, Pinckney, MJackson, Bandy, Jaquan, Frierson/Hall

Get weird.

Rush end or the other 2 linebacker positions but not at striker. Let the true hybrid guys like Romeo Finley or Derrick smith play that role

When McCloud was being recruited I thought he projected best as an edge rusher. He's better at attacking things in front of him compared to diagnosing and moving in space.

IMO we have the pass rushers and there are faster LB'ers I think would be better at that skill. With that said he has the size to do it.
