I'm not that well versed in how this process occurs, so forgive me is this is ignorant, but...

A liberal BOT ... with an outgoing Clinton cabinet member President who will likely have a hand in the hiring process .... is going to hire George Bush's SOS?

Am I missing something?

Maybe. The liberal Shalala was recruited to UM by Republican trustee Chuck Cobb. Politics might not be an issue. I can think of other issues which would lead me to not like Rice as president. She would be pro-football, though.
 
That would be great hire. She loves football. We will have to overlook her Masters from ND. She is extremely competitive and most important she is on the frigging selection committee for the playoffs. It puts THE U at the table. She is a Southerner and therefore football is the real deal for her. Yeah, I think I like it.
 
I know we mock DBC around here but brilliant post! Stanford is what the U should aspire to be academically and athletically!

no university is hiring someone from W Bush administration unless it's in the south lol She would probably hire a great coach but she has deep roots at Stanford.

We were like USC. You think they want to be Stanford? Or is Stanford trying to be USC? Stanford is a heck of a University and lately has been playing real football, but I missed their NCs. USC and THE U have many things in common. Small, urban private university that each kicked the crap out of everyone for long time frames. USC is heck of a university also, as is Miami. As much as we hate ND, it is them, USC and THE U have been the private schools holding the high ground through the years against the state supported monoliths. ND isn't small but still private. I am not willing to accept the want-to-be status of Standford. We are THE U and we need to RECLAIM, not claim, our status on top of mountain.
 
Nycane, rly?! And a deeply southern university would be willing to hire a black woman just cause she worked for a republican prez? Yeah ok! And her deep roots and Stanford have her only as a tenured faculty member at one of the most liberal universities in the US. Additionally, she did spend some time in the provost office. She may want some career advancement.
