Dude, when even my Mom is saying fire Al Golden the fan base ain't pretty split. There is no surprise. I'd say it's closer to 80-20 in favor of firing Golden.

Shodell and Ferman know as much as the rest of us know about what is going on inside Hecht and President Frenk's office. Having said that, Blake James has never fired a coach and its clear that he doesn't like that aspect of his job. He is hoping against hope that he doesn't have to fire F A G.

Last night I spoke with a friend who is a significant donor and whose family also donates a lot of money to UM and UM athletics. He told me that he not only wants F A G gone, but he wants Blake gone as well. I mentioned to him that continuing to give UM money just perpetuates the problem, and he told me that they understand that, but he told me that they are going to continue giving to the school. He mentioned that during the meltdown in the Nebraska game that there were several people sitting in the Golden Canes section who were turning around and yelling in Frenk's direction that they need to can F A G immediately.

I agree with him in that the fan base IS divided on al golden. Half want him fired and the other half want him dead. So in that sense he IS correct.

As for golden winning the coastal, I've been saying all year that it's likely not possible for UM to win the coastal. It would take a complete collapse from Duke for it to happen. Even if UM beats Duke, UM will still have two cross-divisional losses (FSU and Clemson) whereas Duke plays Wake and BC cross-divisionally.

Possibly. I have a friend that was watching the game at a bunch of long time old timers and he was shocked at how many of them were NOT on the anti-Alf train. I've heard similar stories of others in the fan base. Not saying it's half but it surprised me.

I agree with the core take but not your rationale, NVA.

I've been to the San Francisco Canes Alumni game watch. Its comprised on a few dozen younger grads, all under the age of 30 or so. These kids don't really follow the program outside of the monthly alumni news letters, so its not that golden has them but rather they're limited to the information they receive.

We've made the point here ad nauseam about how the local sports media are in the tank with UM. Nationally, there is no longer any coverage of UM. So these kids, who think of themselves as die hard Canes fans are simply ignorant of what's really happening within the program. For THAT reason, they would likely still want to give golden one more year in 2016.
