Miami Hurricanes defensive line Marquise Lightfoot spoke to the media ahead of the Hurricanes matchup against the FAMU Rattlers. Check out everything he had to say down below:
On playing well against the run: Yeah. Like, just, that comes with just putting on the weight, just playing with violence and whatnot. But that was something I'm trying to change the narrative on, people thinking I'm too small to play that position. So, it's a lot more work to still do, but I guess we did stop the run, though.
On how he would rate his game against Stanford: I'd say a five, because, we made the average plays that, you know, I was able to make with just violence. But I'd say it was a lot more meat left on the bone. I got into a motion in pass rushing-wise quick. I just felt like I was too used to eyeing O-line, as they said. But, they did do a lot of chips, making sure they got the ball out quick, making sure they chipped the edges. So, it's a lot more left to do, a lot more left to, what should I say, a lot more left to prove, I'd say. But I'd say a five out of ten. I didn't like that game at all.
On Armando Blount's performance: Yeah, he did his thing. I think he did real well. He showed a lot more pass rush moves than I thought he had. So, like, he most definitely, and I'm proud of him, man. But he did his thing out there.
On whether there was any jealousy in the defensive end room over who got the first sack: No, it ain't no jealousy, man. I mean, it's a race to the ball every time, but, we proud of whoever makes the play, man. We just want to see everybody do great.
On what it will take to get to the next level: I say, that first game was just us getting our feet wet. A lot of people just getting used to, the real speed of how the game goes. So as the season goes on, it's just going to get more and more violent, a lot more us playing together as a team and whatnot. But that's what I mean when I say it's a lot more left to, meat on the bone.
On adjusting to the shorter week: We just basically, push it up a day. Usually we play on either Friday or Saturday, so we just push the schedule up a day and we're gonna treat it 1-0 like every other game.
