Markeith Williams Ballin in practice!

Pinstripe Bowl. And I know a lot of statwatchers will dismiss this saying he had 8 tackles....

I'd say first, go watch those tackles and count how many he finishes himself... several of him hanging on for dear life until a teammate shows up. He also had some plays missed in run support because he was struggling to get there or he was diving at shoe laces. I also remember him bouncing off a moving pile to the floor at least once.

The above combined with his size gives me pause about how he'll show up in run support or protect the back end solo.
I mean, its all fair assessment. I certainly wouldn't argue with anyone about his size, he definitely needs about 20-30lbs on him.

But, it is hard to argue a man's heart, and this dude has it.

I hear you. I did say I thought he was "a tough gamer." He's not our there letting guys by or hiding.

And it is fair to point out I don't think too many guys on our team wanted to tackle Rutgers' RB or TE that day. Overall, our defense got pushed around quite a bit (not just Markeith).

Now watch those same clips and tell me how many of those tackles or any tackles we had as a team were one v one. Rutgers' o-line pushed the pile on every rushing play. Half their yards were off the pushes from the lines smh. When 2-3 280 plus pound dudes are pushing a 220 pound RB forward, it's tough to ask anyone to push them back.

No. You're taking a tertiary comment and making it the point of your entire rebuttal.

No pile. Tackling a RB or TE or WR. He was struggling to bring dudes down. Even the one .5 TFL he got in the backfield clean he couldn't bring the man down. One play he dove at shoe strings coming unblocked at the RB and that one went for 6.

He's game. He's going to try to get his man down by any means necessary. But if you are telling me you are actually confident about this young man in run support or 1 v 1 tackling situations, then we are just going to have to agree to disagree and recognize we watch this game differently.

Truth. I'm sure Markeith is putting in the work this off-season, and we all expect him to be much better and contribute more. He's got heart. But there is a reason they moved Meesh back to "SAFE-ty".

I never said I was confident in him in run support. He shouldn’t be in run support. He should be the deep safety on every down. There’s 10 other dudes out there. He should be the last line of defense. Tackling in the box is much different from open field tackling.
