I'm sure He did, but that's not what this thread is about. Show me a quote where Lombardi used the term rape after a loss...

By the way, rape in not a word used only to discribe something dealing with forced ***. It is also the wanton destruction or spoiling of a place. It is also used to mean the the taking of something by force with or without robbery. I think it is clear that this meaning are more likely what was intended. Contolling poeple’s speech is a great power and it is that power that all “sensitive” people seek.

Using military analogies in football is nothing new. Move on. The game is metaphor for battle. That’s why we enjoy it.
Coach Whipple should have chosen a different term than ‘a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration carried out against a person without that person's consent’.
Yes, there is an alternative use of the word rape to infer ‘taking of something by force’, but the word rarely used in this context.
Before Whipple, show me a quote where a coach used the term rape after a loss...
That depends on the amount and type of reading one does. Historical writings refer to it frequently. Whipple seems the egg head type. Perhaps he is to educated for today’s taste. The point really is that what he said is not offensive per se. today’s politics demand control over language in a way not see since the left wing fascists of Germany.
There are reasons the founding fathers insisted on the Bill of Rights to a free to the power the Consitition granted the federal government. I could not care less about Whipple, but your and mine right to free speech is a priceless gem which once lost will only be regained by the spillage of blood. That is how we got it in the first place over two centuries ago.
It is funny that not too long ago George Carlin became a cult hero for his words you can’t say on TV. Now we stand by and let people didtcate what we can and cannot say without question. Did you like Carlin?
Former Army here...I read through this thead and don't want to get into the politics of it.You divined reading and understanding... from a downvote? You’re wrong by the way and I won’t correct you. But, you haven’t answered the question.
Is it alright for non-military to call themselves a soldier?
Tetra... we can discuss anything you want without insulting each other... I operate on CIS as if I'm speaking to you in person. You divined reading and understanding... from a downvote? You’re wrong by the way and I won’t correct you. But, you haven’t answered the question.

And you my friend are his number one disciple.Freedom of speech does not equal freedom from consequences.
Butch Davis is a football God!
I love Carlin.
And, I understand Whipple may not have intended to use the word ‘rape’ in a sexual context. Maybe he’s an egghead. After all, he’s at UMass, not UTexas. He’s also a lifelong football coach, where challenging one’s manhood is a part of the game. A game where misogyny and homophobia are common. Where at one time a charge of domestic violence received a lesser penalty than using performance enhancing drugs or smoking marijuana. Where colleges have covered up or ignored claims of rape or other sexual assaults on campus.
If I were the President of UMass I would not have suspended him. I would have reprimanded and encouraged him to use other vocabulary. Apologize at the next press conference. If he refused, I‘d remind him of his 14-40 record and the likelihood of terminating his employment. Perhaps for cause.
Why? Not to cater to SJWs. No. The concept of micro-aggressions and language itself being violent is ludicrous.
Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. I would choose to not use his terms the same way I would not say the Ohio defense ‘penned us in like guards at a concentration camp’ or ‘pinned us down like altar boys at a catholic school’.
We don’t live in bubbles. Given a reason, I’m more than willing to offend anyone, anytime. Otherwise I’ll chose to be respectful of other people.
I love Carlin. You should watch his bit about boxing, and having a pretend fight with Muhammad Ali. If you haven’t.
Personally I did not care for Carlin’s fight to be obscene, but like I said, restricting free speech is dangerous. I myself have been accused of being an a** many times and care nothing about what others think of me, but respect thier right to say what they think.
I have found a way to enjoy micro-aggressions. I ride a mobility scooter often. When I shop our nearby publix which filled with ultra left types, I will wait for woman in yoga pants and jogging shoes to quickly walk pass me. I then raise my voice and call her out for a micro-aggression, saying the ease at which she walks quickly make me feel inferior and hurts my feeling. It never fails to get a “I’m sorry”. Then I make sure to go down the same isle she is in just to watch her slow down again. If I am in the mood to rub salt, I check out behind her. After she unloads my cart for me, I tell her I was just breaking her chops and that I voted for Trump. Almost got my a** kicked a couple times, but the fun is worth in. What can say, my youngest grandson call me a mean man.
Let’s declare in advance that any and all comments about the FSU Dora the Explorer bag are acceptable.
