Mark Richt's worst nightmare

I think we can all see that Rosier's problems are on Rosier. It doesn't matter who is open or how much gunslinging Rosier does. Richt's initial assessment was correct when he thought Rosier would never play QB for him. But, since he was put in a spot where he felt like Rosier was his only option he did play him and managed to wring 10 wins out of him before it all came crashing down.

I don't think the offensive game has passed Richt by, as you suggest. But I do think he needs to get somebody out there under center who can execute the basics of the QB position at an acceptable level. If he can get that done over the next few weeks, then a lot of the problems will go away. If he can't, then get ready for a throw away season.

Let me put it this way.

When Richt pulled out his playbook from his days as an Offensive Coordinator - he had to brush some pertrified Pterodactyl schitt off many of the pages.

I don't know, it just seems we haven't had good QB play since Dorsey left 15 freakin years ago. Berlin was ok, but very inconsistent. Everyone else since has been bad.

I agree.

That's really amazing it's been that long

Maybe it's due to Climate Change??

Looking at the current QB situation, one would have to think this situation has the potential to be a nightmare for Richt.

He was forced out at UGA after a very good 15 year run in which he elevated the program, won two SEC titles, churned out NFL talent, and averaged about 10 wins per season. What happened? The QB situation turned into the perfect storm in 2015, that's what happened.

After Aaron Murray (and Hutson Mason's one season), he had highly-rated QBs on his roster that never panned out.

--Jacob Park--4 star recruit that ended up transferring to Iowa State and then left the team in mid-season.

--Brice Ramsey--4 star recruit that couldn't be counted on in live action. (Actually contributed more as a punter than QB).

--Faton Bauta--3 star recruit that was supposed to be dual-threat, but turned out to be UGA's Kirby Freeman...or worse.

--Greyson Lambert--4 star recruit that started out at UVA and then transferred to UGA.

In 2015 Lambert was the starter, but he was way too inconsistent. He looked like a total stud running a play-action fake and dropping back to set up to throw. But once he would carry out the fake he would have no idea where to go with the ball and would either make a bad throw or take a sack. Lambert couldn't get it done. Ramsey was totally unreliable. By the middle of the season, Richt uncharacteristically got desperate and ran Bauta out there as the unexpected starter vs the Crocs. He proceeded to throw 4 picks and Georgia got blown out by a Treon Harris-led team. And that was pretty much the end for Richt at Georgia.

The team went on to win 10 games in 2015 in spite of all that and the cupboard was completely stacked for Kirby Smart when he took over. But a depth chart full of unusable QBs did Mark Richt in.

Fast forward to 2018. He brought Miami back to national prominence ahead of schedule and won 10 games with a backup QB left over from the former staff. He has 3 other highly-rated QBs on his depth chart. The 5th year senior starter is riding a 4-game losing streak and is clearly unable to get the job done. The fans are fed up and so are many of the players (if reports are to be trusted). He's at a crossroads. He doesn't want a nightmare repeat of 2015 where he keeps trotting out different guys and none of them perform. Out of the guys currently on the roster, he has to pick the right QB to lead the team and he has to do it now.

We can only hope that he learned something from 2015 and gets it right this time around.
Maybe he needs to change the O to one QBs can understand. If no QB he recruits understands his system enough to execute it, then change the **** thing.

I am simply a fan but it bothers me when I pretty much know what play is going to be run knowing that I am not an expert but the other teams defensive coordinator is an expert...we had zero new wrinkles and nothing new.

georgia fans want to blame richt for missing on deshaun like richt is some terrible recruiter because of it....****, look at all the amazing college qbs out of the state of florida that we missed on in the last 15 years. Wle would have been thrilled if we only missed out on one.

I knew what play the UM offense was gonna run before the snap all the time in ‘01.

The difference, of course, is that Ken Dorsey & friends actually executed the play. We don’t have a guy under center that can do that right now.

Isn't the criticism that Richt recruited Watson as a tight end?

Absolutely remember watching from student section as defenders would line up man over Santana or Reggie w no safety on that side and what seemed like half the student section pointing out that we were about to score a long one

And our Qb still managed to look like crap and none of the other qbs are “good “ enough to take over...mindblowing to me.

Exactly! This is what doomed him at UGA. Also think about all of the QB evaluations he missed on at UGA. Nick Marshall was a cornerback at UGA and Auburn turned him into a very good QB. Deshaun Watson and Cam Newton were misses. Now think about what happened here, Kaaya played worse under Richt. Jack Allison transferred and is supposedly looking good at West Virginia. He was recruiing Sitowski who threw 3 interceptions vs. Texas State. A UGA booster told me Richt is good at running a clean program, upgrading the talent at the skill positions and great with the media but his QB/ Offensive Line development and recruiting is terrible. He also said Stacy Searels is atrocious as a coach for what its worth.
Im sorry, no ******* way.

Hmmm I wonder if Malik can punt....

Man.... Mark Richt has coached multiple heisman winners and nfl quarterbacks. Don't act like he doesn't know the position.

this is Mark Richt's worst nightmare. One of the younger QBs finally plays and goes 22-30 335 5 TDs 0 INTs

So what did?

It wasn’t just poor QB play. It was the culmination of several things over the last 10 years. Poor ST play was an issue, poor OL recruiting, poor player development. These lead to the big "letdowns" that Miami just saw on Sunday night against LSU. I can't tell you how many times UGA were pumped going into the season only to see the reality crashing down after the 1st big game.

There was also Richt surrounding himself with people he shouldn't have hired (I'm looking at you Stacy Searels, Todd Grantham, Brian Schottenheimer, Willie Martinez, and multiple strength and conditioning coaches that are too numerous to name).

The peple that did well on Richt's staff didn't stick around long enough (Brian Van Gorder, Mike Bobo) or were cancers to the team (Jeremy Pruitt) and caused in-fighting.

Couple all those issues that Richt couldn't already manage with an administration that simply never gave Richt the support that they are giving Kirby. Kirby get what he wants when he wants it. UGA's expenses for football have DOUBLED since 5 years ago (Georgia Mailbag: What happened to make UGA go all in on...). Richt did not have this kind of support.

It was a multitude of failures across the board. Simply attributing his downfall to having bad QBs is lazy and not correct. Richt was about to sign Eason before he was canned so Richt had his new QB going forward. But it was his fault that he left a gap of several years between the last good QB and what Eason would have been.
