Mark Richt's Miami Rebuild begins with community outreach

"At Georgia, all of this made Richt a divisive figure. Sure, he's a man of faith ... but visiting a park during a game week? Maybe he was just too nice a guy for the job, too concerned with things outside football. Those notions hovered over Richt's entire tenure in Athens."

Seriously? This is one of my favorite things about Richt. I love that he's investing in the community, because the community is better because of it. One day the community will invest in him as well.

I remember him catching grief over going on a mission in the off season. I like him being religious but this is great mix. Lot of these kids and parents are church goers and Mark will be hit with them. He needs to rebuild the wall by whatever means.

That's where he will be a beast. Not a lot of father's in these kids lives but the mother and grandmothers will love CMR. As much as yall want it to change, he will always be CMR.

He is making a difference in this community. I admire the man for his courage to be the man God wants him to be ,unashamed to mention the Lord Jesus Christ. We need about 1000 more like him in Miami. He does it the right way-by allowing people to choose and not pushing anything on them. Love other people and love God,it's really that simple.

But it's more than football for Richt. He's a man of faith and family and, here in Miami, he feels a little distanced from both. Two days after the Mills Pond Park visit, Richt's Hurricanes would travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech. Katherine had gone early. Georgia, in so many ways, is still home. Richt's entire family still lives in Athens. During his first spring on the job at Miami, Katherine was finishing a nursing degree at UGA, and Richt was living alone in an efficiency lent to him from former school president Donna Shalala.

Can someone hash this statement out for me? I can read it several different ways. Not sure what the author was saying.

Great piece though from David Hale.

ESPN usually sics the 2 curr btiches on us.

Make it obvious for me cuz. I have no idea wtf he's saying. WTF is an "efficiency"?

I lived in SSChiraq and Compton and never heard of an "efficiency".

Is it like an apartment or something? Is it a FL thing?

Efficiency or Studio apartments are an apartment in which one room typically contains the kitchen, living, and sleeping quarters, with a separate bathroom.

An efficiency is like a studio apartment. Kitchen, living room, bedroom is all in one room.

Hopefully it was fumigated to get out all of the troll germs and diseases before Richt used it.

Gracias amigos...where I grew up we called those meth houses.

Where I was born we called those mansions.

At least I understand now.

This is to be expected from any new coach, that has any semblance of competence. Coach Richt is a **** good coach, and he understands that he has to get these kids to buy into the program NOW. That said, Golden tried similar things with the camps and the like, the problem was that he didn't get it done on the field, so people never bought in(For good **** reason). Richt will win here, he's been a winner throughout his coaching career, so it's not a leap of faith to believe that he won't find success in Miami. Miami winning will do more to repair the holes in the wall, than him going to parks, even though I'm a big fan of him reaching out to these youngsters. Win, and kids will want to stay home, especially when you look at the facilities and whatnot on campus. You aren't missing out on anything(Outside of SEC money), by staying home now, and that's going to be a big selling point going forward.

I have no problem at all with people of faith -- except my fellow Catholics who mistakenly think ND is holy. We certainly had no problem winning with Father Leo on the sideline. Just so on game day and at practice Mark is a little more like Jesus in the Temple with the whip than Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount. That said, I do not like the CMR thing. That is uga legacy. Mark in home now and needs a winner's title. Maybe Boca or not but not CMR. We lead not follow.
