Mark Richt will get it done (Long)

Everybody's missing the Magic that is Butch Davis.

He doesn't recruit to get great players. He doesn't recruit to fill gaps. He doesn't recruit because he wants good players.

He recruits because he loves it. He's like a detective - spends a buttload of time at it - because that's what he is great at, and loves it. You really love doing something - you're really good at it. And it's not work.

Buncha pups on here that would pay solid gold prices for gold plate. Look at the flash on the outside - and always end up screwed because they can't see past the surface.

He eats, sleeps and lives for player evals. Then he hires the assistants to develop them.

Haven't seen much of that in Coral Gables for a long time.

His quote was “I think Mark Richt can GET IT DONE (NOT A SHIP) but a perennial top 10-12 team.

That’s not getting it done!! We didn’t hire him to be a top 10-12 team; and I’m sorry, we’re a team w 5 national championships.

This is not about a microwave process; this about being COMPLACENT with finishing top 10-12 and no championships. Like gtfoh! That’s the problem w some of our neutered fans; u see us consistently win 9-10 games, have a top 15 recruiting class every year, and go to some PIN stripe, NYE or New Year’s bowl and that’ll NOW be good enough for you. We ain’t Michigan St, UCLA, Richt’s UGA, Boise St. **** it, we’re the U, and the more u so called fans accept mediocrity and make excuses for mediocrity, the more you’ll be complacent w some poll rank behind our names.

I’m not looking for a quik fix; I know what has happened the last decade, but I’ll be damned we pay $4m/yr just to be a perennial top 10-12 team with no championships and that’s kosher. All u white knight fans can down vote all u want, but this soft chit and abused wife syndrome that’s been displayed is enough already.

people forget we have been robbed out of like 3 NC's too. we should have 8

It's still very, very much up in the air if Richt can "get it done".

Getting it done is winning championships.

We were down by a pile to a dog's *** LSU team - much like we barely - barely - beat one of FSU's worse teams that I can recall last year.

And we still lost to that LSU team by over 2 TDs - and that was not a good team.

We did fine against a JV squad last week.

3 years in and we still have holes on the roster - such as the TE and DL position groups.

The DL group was the strongest and deepest when Richt took over. Now we clearly don't have enough depth.

And, as I'm sure many others have mentioned, the run game didn't do a whole lot against the JV squad.

And 2 games into the season we're down to 4 DEs which is a problem.

And if Richt were to choose not to take a QB this year, it would only give more data to show that he can't manage a roster well enough to compete for championships - and possibly not even well enough to regularly win a traditionally weak division in the conference.

We will see what Richt can do, but the LSU game was a national TV disaster against a team that isn't of a high quality.

I know losing to LSU sucked ***. We can question coaching decisions and we should within the eb and flow of the season. In the end though, having our team stacked with players is what will take us back to prominence and i see that happening slowly but surely.
All 11 starters in UGA title game on D were recruited by Mark Richt, Chubb and Michel were recruited by Mark Richt. The guy knows talent. I look at the '20 recruiting class and that thing is gonna be lit. We need to and will get back to when we step on the field we overmatch 85% of the schedule at every position and match the other 15% of the opponents. There are not too many genius coaches. When Saban plays teams that match his team, the games are normally close. The thing is how many teams can realistically match them? Players win games.

Butch Davis wasn't such a genius at scheming, he just knew what the team supposed to look like. Our team is struggling now because we still have Golden players in the upper class and these players were alot of average players coming out of high school and then indoctrinated in bad teachings. If you search almost every position on our team, OL, RB, Safety, QB, the underclassmen and back ups are way better in talent than the starters, and im talking elite talent that any top 10 school would want. Saban flew a chopper to try prying Gurvan Hall away from us for example.

We must within our anger resist the urge to compare Richt to Golden, sorry i went to the VT and ND game and Golden woulda gotten smashed by both teams, we smashed them, seems like ages ago but that did happen. We now need consistency. Clemson that everyone fawns over, you realize Dabo was there and got beat at home by Shannon and Jacory? They got 70 put on them in a bowl game. Things changed when they started recruiting in the top 5 and top 10, we must get back there, magic coaching cannot get us out of this funk, we are gonna consistently be around top 10-15, we need the special players and a bunch of them to get pass the Wisconsins and LSU'S who themselves get overmatched by Bama and OSU. That's where we are. I expect this team to improve over the season, if we were a terrible team we woulda folded tent v LSU and got 50 put on us.

Last thing ima say, no team from Florida ever went wrong by getting the best players from the state and that's what we are doing. Once FSU started recruiting all those 5 star out of state players it was over for them. We must in this hunger to get back to elite enjoy this process as well as fans, not blind loyalty of course but be fair to the players and coaches as well. We will be back like the electric bill.

Those are all legit concerns if you take the absolute harshest view of things. In the real world, you do the best you can, and fix one issue at a time. Richt has made a huge amount of improvements to the program in 2 years. Still more areas to improve. His young QB's are in the system and on the way. It's now about producing on the field for them.

Season is young and I'm looking forward to seeing what we got.

Go Canes!!!

Cool. I guess it is a bigger concern how the same obvious issues exist in year 3.

Excellent points.

Guys like Nesta, Lingard, Polk, Hightower are players we have not had in a while. The Storm18 class will the class we look back on that put Miami back on top. Now it is time to stack chips.
And,if we don't put a better product on the field NOW we wont get those kinda players in the future, No real players want to be bridges!

I have seen this thread over and over through the years.

The inability for people to think critically and creatively is what causes them to not see the same pattern over and over.

How is corch rick’s recruiting class looking this year?

Randy Shannon had one elite class too. Its not enough. If you cant actually coach you need to stack chips EVERY YEAR.

Reading the comments on this thread has led me to wonder if the players leaving early is a tell tale sign of their lack of faith/trust in CMR and his ability to truly get it done or take Miami to the next level.

I want a young innovative mind at OC...
Too much WR talent and RB talent to look what we looked liked against LSU....When's the last time an opposing DC of a P5 team...Cracked on our Offensive gameplan....without really Cracking on it??....It's mind numbing how our playcalling is at times....
If nobody wants your coaches they probably aint that good!As for our HC eventually the game passes us all ,even the great ones, not saying it has ,But its a looing like a good question!

This thread is going no where fast

Is Richt on the right track, yes
Does he need to:
1. Hire a real OC
2. Improve the coaching staff and stop hiring stray cats as coaches
3. Move on from Rosier

Do these things and then we can start thinking about the playoffs
Good post. I like the credibility Richt brings to the program but his staff is full of rookies and known journeymen. I don't like the fact that we have a running backs coach listed as the OC AND a QB coach who only has the job because his dad is HC. Throw in Searles, who's had a long and mediocre career and I just don't trust the staff on offense. I think Richt has put too much on himself and it's biting him. If Richt insists on calling the plays, at least get someone with experience to work one on one with the QBs.

Richt will have to do some unexpected things to get it done (win a national title, thats all that is implied with that statement).

Richt will not do those things at this point in his career, at this stop in his career.

It will not be easier for him to win in Miami than it was in Georgia, which means he will have to become a better coach than he was. There is zero evidence suggesting that has, or is happening at this point, and he has not (and will not at Miami) recruit at a high enough level to do it with jimmies and joes versus x's and o's.

Heck, I think the plays are there for an accurate QB. Let's start by benching Rosier and seeing what Richt's play calling looks like with a better QB. If no QB on the roster gets better results, it's no longer a QB issue, but a coaching issue.

I think back to when everyone wanted Larry Coker fired as OC. Then Kelly goes down and Dorsey tears it up. No one wanted Coker fired at the end of 2000, because his O looked pretty darn good with a better QB. Heck, Dorsey wasn't some amazing QB with other-worldly talent, he was just a guy that could make the throws he was asked to make, and pretty consistently. Rosier? The only thing he does consistently is kill drives.
