Mark Richt sounding like hes hoping for a Text or Call

I took his comments as saying he wants to help us with the coaching search. Please get Mark richt to talk some sense into these other former canes. Mark richt and Alonzo Highsmith are the two most qualified former players to give advice on who to hire

How about Butch Davis?

He's a pretty good guy to help get the program back on track don't ya think?

Butch is a potential candidate though. He is not a guy that should be giving advice he is a guy that should be getting interviewed

After clicking on the link and reading the article, I got the sense he will consider the idea of leaving to Miami. The article highlighted the difference in his response now compared to his response in 2010 to the same question:

2010: When Richt was asked about the Miami job in 2010, he said: "Just like I've been saying, men, Georgia's my home and that's where I want to be. I don't think you've got to go any farther than that.”

Now: “I don’t think much of it really,” said Richt, a former backup quarterback for the Hurricanes who is in his 15th season as Georgia head coach. “I love my alma mater, the U. No doubt about it, but there’s been nobody calling or writing or texting or anything like that. So I’m sure they’ll find a great coach.”

He will never win a National Championship at UG. He would win one here. It will be an easier path through the ACC

I like him but, to me, that says something.
Georgia is #4 or #5 in states producing the best recruits year in, year out.
He should have made a few serious runs at the NC sometime during his tenure at UGA.

I like Richt. He gets shlt on a lot, but

14 full seasons at UGA
9 times he won 10+ games
Finished in the top 25 11 times
The top 10 eight times
9 bowl wins
6 Division titles
2 Conference titles

His average season at UGA is 10-3 in the deepest conference in the country. I know people knock him for a perceived tendency to under-perform relative to his talent, but if we're gonna go around hunting down anyone who's ever been a Hurricane, he is 100x the candidate Dud, Wario, and Schiano are.

Agreed! in an easier conference, with a better recruiting territory. he would kill it!

Whats it say really? Has georgia ever won a championship?

I don’t understand why more fans don’t want him here. He would be an excellent hire and should be at the top of the list, or near it

You could argue he was one play from the national title in 2012. They make a play when they're down at the 5 yard line in the SEC title game against Bama, they go on and beat Notre Dame easily, as Bama did that year.

Yes, in 1980 with Herschel Walker.

Dont want but still

Mark could have come save his alma mater in 2007 but expressed zero interest. Who knows? Maybe he's tired of the roller coaster ride in Athens. That being said he's a good football coach.

I'm not going to hold turning us down against him. He has done a lot better in tougher conference than we have in Coastal. My 1st, 2nd, and 3nd pick is Butch. Beyond that, Mark would probably be next if he can bring Butch as DC and recruiter(together they could be a hand full). Chud with Butch as DC is my only other choice. Beyond that, I'll check in and see how things are going but will not be $$$$ excited.

Easier path through the ACC or not, he seems to struggle against the top opponents which you would ultimately face in the playoffs. South Carolina hasn't ever won ****, but Spurrier has had UGAs number for some time.

No thanks.

His '07 squad was, in my opinion, the best team in the country by the end of the year. They lost a fluky game early to Spurrier and took one on the chin at Neyland...by the end of the year they would have whupped anyone. (That was the year of the Florida celebration)

The 2002 team would have beat anyone save Miami. The 2012 squad was like 5 yards away from playing for the championship...only losses were to Spurrier's #6 ranked Skerlina and eventual champion 'Bama in the SEC Title Game.

Guy is a great candidate. Georgia fans demand their program do it cleaner than 'Bama and LSU and get the same results, which is not realistic in the SEC shark tank.

For all the "Georgia is a talent hotbed" stuff, they have 1 national title in modern history and that was with the greatest college player of all time (arguably) in Herschel Walker and included a miracle play to beat a mediocre Florida team ("run, Lindsay, run"). Maybe not as easy to win there as people want to think?
