Mark richt on fixed problems at Miami

Coach richt is real with it, he knows he wasnt perfect but good leader recognizes flaws, at the end of the day, coach richt came in an upgraded in my opinion all area's of the football program, including the S&C dept. To those who got amnesia, just go and replay the tapes from when, before coach richt got here. No matter what coach gus did or didnt do, he got better results than in alot of years prior. That's a major reason why the team speed started showing up again. Had to trim the pig 10 fat weight program, so in 3yrs, great job. Now manny gets to take it to the next level!

Felder-Richt did not do a great job. That is ridiculous. In 3 years the roster turns over, in any case. IMO Feeler will make clear what was lacking under Felder.

Richt inherited the following from Folden:

McDermott, Darling, Isidora, St. Louis
Njoku, Herndon
Coley, Berrios
Walton, Homer*
Kaaya, Rosier

G. Willis, Norton, McIntosh
AQM, C. Thomas, Patchan, D. Jackson, T. Harris, J. Jackson*
Shaq*, McCloud*, Pinckney*, Grace,
Elder, M. Jackson
Jenkins, Jaquan, Redwine, J. Carter

Vogel, Badgley

Mr. ‘QB whisperer’ went down with Golden’s project QB in year 3! Richt didnt retool the QB position. He didnt improve the OL or interior DL. He didn’t do anything at LB beyond what he inherited. Our secondary is not better today than what Richt inherited.

Richt brought Manny and Manny fixed our defensive schematic issues.

Richt had a good offensive recruiting class in ‘18.

Not a lot to show for 3 years.

A coaches wishes just aren't magically granted. They offer suggestions to the AD, it has to pass there, and then eventually it is fed up the chain.

A coaches list is long. Some are granted, others aren't, and they all take time. So while there may be a problem, the solution if known, isn't always available until later on.
Felder was richt’s guy. He cannot blame his S&C on someone else.

And Man y showed that you have to focus and ask and prioritize. It happened because he made the case.

I never said Gus wasn't his fault. Look at the quote though.

The strength and conditioning staff was undermanned, and I don't think we were feeding the players right. Those things have been addressed and I see a bright future the Hurricanes.

He is clearly talking about his time here. He feels the budget needed to be increased to add more bodies. Manny got that done and he sees a bright future.

Fielder was new to the role. I don't know why Richt have him the job he did, but I bet he wish he hadn't. Unfortunately for him, the players, and the program it didn't work out.

You get judged on how you do with what you've got. I grant no excuses, but my post was a reason for what was said.

I don’t think it is as clear as you do. He was being cute. He didnt even say he addressed them. Just the passively worded ‘have been addressed.’ IMO he knows he messed it up. He just didnt want to say so.

Splitting hairs here, but hiring the wrong staff and being undermanned can happen at the same time. He isn't going to say he hired the wrong guy, that's not what coaches do unless they fire someone. Even then they're cordial publicly.

Anyhow, this is a pretty dumb thread. I'm going to bow out now.

Richts only good class came when both FSU and UF were close to rock bottom and we were in the Orange bowl. He still figured out a way to not fully capitalize on that situation.

That class was almost entirely sealed before the season started. They mostly signed early. good thing, too. We finished with three losses. Plus last season we’re what, 7-9 in last 16 games?

Even with 3 losses we should have been able to capitalize on the schitshows in Gayesville and Tallahassee. Instead we got left with our **** in our hands.

Bottomline.... Richt should have taken an year or two off after the Georgia firing. ..Maybe done a couple of game analyst gigs with Espn ..
Instead, against all advice, he took on the HC and OC roles.
...He was doomed to fail and his ego got the better of him.

The good:
- He got us our first Bowl game win in 10 years.
- Got the IPF built, which has been a great addition both for the team & in recruiting
- Brought El Jefe Diaz to Miami & revitalized our tradition of great Defense
- Broke the FSU streak with back to back wins vs our hated rival
- Got us our first 10 win season since 2003
- Win our first ever Coastal title since joining the ACC
- At one point had us as the #2 ranked team in the nation
- Demolished Notre Lame & Va Tech
- Recruited some really good players in the 17 & 18 class
- Returned the program back to respectability
- Got the administration to finally start spending some money on Football again
- Created Paradise Camp

The bad:
- Worst Offense in the modern era of Miami Football
- Made a HUGE mistake hiring Lil Jon as a full time position coach, when he was nothing more than a glorified GA
- Hired that bum Seashells
- Hired a fat Strength coach, who had our players looking flabby sick like Larry Holmes (2pac voice)
- Don't know who is responsible, but lost 2 possibly 3 players to career ending injuries, all 3 of whom had some serious neck issues. (Richards, Young & possibly Wilder)
- Got embarrassed vs Clemson, LSU, Wisconsin & BC
- Three separate 4 game losing streaks
- That Got damned Onside Kick vs UVA with 3:10 left in the 4th quarter & all 3 timeouts (smfh)
- Bad losses to Duke & GTech
- Bet the house on Rosier
- Bad roster depth management, never fielding a full 85
- Team was often unprepared & completely unmotivated for big games
- That MF'in Onside Kick vs UVA (smfh)

All in all, he didn't get it done & win us a title, but I'm glad he did the right thing & stepped down leaving the money on the table which helped us double up & bolster the staff we have now.

No hard feelings towards Richt, he was better than Folden & Shannon, but just didn't have it anymore & probably didn't realize how much harder it is to run this program than it is at a place like UGA.

Gus mailed it in, and was never hands on to the point that the guys were all in.......
hard to Coach, when you are thinking about the next 5 burgers, and 3 extra large smoothies...
wonder if it was right or left hand smoothies.

I truly believe richt came her to ride our the last 4-5 or whatever years he had left of coaching. I think he didn't expect us as fans to be so passionate about the university and winning. +1 to what @KWConch said about the buyout. He truly could've of screwed us but didn't and realized he wasn't the man for the job. I'm sure that was a hard pride pill to swallow. I applaud mark for what he did for the university it could've been so much worse when he exited.
After 5 (really 6) NCs...and 30yrs of Dominance, you actually think he didn't expect us fans to be so passionate about Winning and UM??....Thats ridiculous...

Richt accomplished more in 3 years than Folden and Shammon years combined. Richt brought back some fun and future upside. ****, the Crying Irish and Vag Tech home games were the most electric I've attended since the OB!

A big Thank You to Coach Richt. He gave it his all and you saw his love for UM. ****, he got the **** IPF built which was always hot air talk in years past. All the best to the man and his family.

We hadn't been that team in over 12+ years before richt got here so no I don't think he did. Radio got 4 years and Mr. Cheeseburger got 4. So he probably felt like he would be able to ride off into retirement the last 4 years of his career here. Plus the problems didn't come out until his final year coaching here. In 2016 all was well because we won our first bowl game in 10 years. The fans saw the cracks in armour the first year he was here but nobody was calling for his job because we won a bowl game for the first time in a decade. Then the following year we made it into the college football playoffs picture and then proceeded to lose the rest of our games including the bowl game that year. Again more cracks showing. Our first game of the season the wheels came completely off and everybody wanted heads to roll. Point is he was winning and times were good. Once he faced adversity from the fans he decided this wasn't for him and left. He loved the U too much to try and rape it for money like Mr. Cheeseburger did before him. I remember during a game and I can't remember which one it was but him and bandy having a moment on the sideline. It was so telling because I knew then he would retire after the season. The pressure got to him because we weren't winning.

this. manny wouldn't even be here if it weren't for richt. richt had a bad last year, but he knew when it was time to go and made that decision. just be appreciative for the better spot the program is in now from a publicity standpoint, facilities, and overall coaching.

You guys are getting awfully dramatic over a dude who stole checks for the last year and half, was on the verge of completely submerging the program, and gave his dopey son a $250k job for 3 years.

He flopped here. The fact that he didn’t completely destroy his alma mater over a few extra million when he just fleeced us for $15M, gave his son a $750k seed, and has more money than he can ever spend is nothing to build a statue of him over.

The Cult of Richt will die gulping this Kool Aid in Guyana...
