Probably not a popular opinion but I don't like this move.

He is has shown solid progress and done some things very well however I want to see the man win. Give me a Coastal Championship, ACC Championship or maybe even Natty before we go giving keys to the City.

This feels like a participation trophy IMO.

If it helps positive momentum, I'm all for it.

Relax, this is probably has more to do with the community outreach he and the team are doing than how the team is performing on the field.

I agree, I thought this type of thing happened after a long run of success or something. Dudes been in Mia a year, went 8-4, lost every game that mattered on the schedule. Maybe I don't understand how these things work. But its good pub for the U. So theres that.

You guys know he's not actually going to be able to open doors with that thing right.

I would assume something like this is attached to his community work and not his on the field performance.

Really?

Getting the keys to the city is a real yawn.

You guys are acting like he got a parade.

When you win a natty, you get a parade. When you do a nice job of community outreach, you get a five minute key to the city ceremony. Move along.

Could not have said it better.

We lost the bowl game against a ranked WVU team? And I thought we had our first bowl win in ten years.

Look, nobody was more disappointed in the 4 game losing streak and I was, but you do nothing for your credibility by outright lying. The WVU game was huge!

Our Coach gets honored for his good works in the community & people still find a way to nitpick, smh.

I honestly believe some of you ****heads really enjoyed the Folden regime, what a ****ty fanbase smh.

LCE I always enjoy your posts man but come on. I love Richt and I love the canes but I feel the key to the City is a very big deal and a high honor for the city of Miami to give.

His philanthropy work over the last year and community outreach has been incredible. The man is a legend. I just personally believe that to give such a high honor after one year is a stretch.

I love the publicity but just feel the award would be better served after he puts in more than a years worth of work. Plenty of other citizens probably a little more deserving of this award. Just my opinion.

How can someone not like this? Sure, it's not a football trophy (those come soon enough) and it doesn't open literal doors.

What then does it do? It sits nice and shiny in his office desk or hangs on the wall. It impresses parents and kids that come to UM for a visit. He's in good with the city folk and impresses parents with his good will. Moms and dads continue to send their kids to UM without hesitation. :)
