Both of these guys are head coaches with long, proven track records of success. And yet, both guys coached this season like they forgot everything they ever knew.

Hindsight says Petrino rode the Lamar Jackson train in his 2nd stint at L'Ville and when Lamar was gone he managed only 2 wins this year before getting axed mid-season.

But what explains the Richt collapse? He didn't have a Lamar to ride to a 10-0 start last season. He came in this year with a team almost identical to the one he had last season, but the results were putrid.

How can a coach whose specialty is offense roll such a horrible offensive product out on the field? It's mind-boggling.

Nobody puts these two in the same category when it comes to character.

I'm talking about their coaching performance.

We got very lucky last year. We won a lot of close games, on some very lucky last-second theatrics

There is absolutely no player development with this staff. Rosier came out looking worse as a 5th year senior

Fire all these bums, they definitely do not deserve the salary they are making.

no they're both liars, both have huge egos, one cheated on his wife the other cheats and deceives UM players and fellow coaches

Man's greatest talent is his ability to ADAPT. Slavish loyalty to a failing process gets you killed. A wise man learns from mistakes and constantly adapts and improves. Our recent HCs have failed at adaptability.

When you go back and look at the questions surrounding this team in the preseason..the answer is clear

Last years oline was a tad above average and played well throughout most that year. This year we had those questions coming in. Who would be our starting tackles.

After Oline it was the QB spot. Could perry take the reigns from the less talented rosier. Answer was no. Tho ppl on this board claim MR was playing favorite towards 5. I don’t believe that. Just think for obvious reasons he doesn’t trust the kid.

Lastly could Miami create the same amount of TOs which were key in that 10-0 start. Answer is no.

So the oline didn’t gel and played poorly. The QB spot because of it regressed . 82 is loss in game one. The magic from the TOS which helped us in close games wasn’t there.

Now it’s up to Mark Richt to get it fixed or he’s gone. Simple as that

Everybody's missing one key point: Both Richt and Petrino hired their unqualified 20-something sons as their QB coaches at their Power 5 programs.

Yeah, that's a parallel, for sure. But it's bigger than that.

Oh I'm not using that as the sole explanation, but it definitely has played a part in both of their demises.
A coach's staff >>>> Moses' staff. Its that important.

Nepotism hires, promotions of unqualified assistants to coordinator positions and loyalty to a fault, they catch up sooner or later.

Recruits probably saw Richt hire and retain his bum son as QB coach or Petrino hire his 2 sons-in-law as defensive position coaches and said, "Are they there because they're the best person for the job and their relationship is just coincidental or are they their because of that relationship?"
Not every recruit or even current player is gonna be able to shrug that off.

There's more to it than the nepotism, but the nepotism don't help.
