may have gotten the last face-to-face time

Worth noting TAMU is likely to land 5* OL Kennedy Brown - that’s who the prediction above is for. TAMU might have the means to pony up for 3 5* OL (Olu being the other one) and they are in the top 2 for 5* Albert Simien too (IOL). They are probably desperate enough to do it too. I still think we land Matthews at the end of the day, but for the first time ever, I’m not really stressed if we don’t. Do we need him? Absolutely. He is the prototype, local, and we are the better fit for him. But, I think we’ll be fine up front going forward with or without him.
Yeah you don’t spend that much time at that place unless you are seriously interested.5 days or whatever in college station is more than a trip imo. Not like its to USC
You just defined not needing him with your last sentence
Not easyWill be interested to see how A&M performs this year, harder SEC schedule and OC who has not called plays. Still think we get Mark
Would be a momentum killer. Need to close on this one.
Semantics. We can look at any individual kid from this class and say we’d be “fine” without them. This is a recruitment we should win and I think it’d be much worse from an optics standpoint vs on the field if we were to lose him.I’m done w it, go Canes.
I see what you mean. I don't think it'd be a huge loss on the field with the current state of our OL recruiting & development (best in America?), hence my not needing comment. But you're absolutely right on the optics point of view

Losing Mathews would be worse than the combined “loss” of the local RB and WR from last yr. Those two imo genuinely were major Ls.

This one would be an L. Particularly because clearly we’d be pivoting to a diff 5star OT likely. So clearly we’d want/need a top OT likely that.
However I do think the only way we lose this recruitment really is A&M drops the motherload on him. They’re really looking to land an elite OLine class. But logically if that’s the case I think financially it makes more sense to get Olu and keep the guys they already have and land this guy they just received the crystal ball
