2027 Mark Matthews 5* OL from STA

Five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews finished up his spring visit slate with a trip to Texas A&M over the weekend.

After seeing his finalists, some for several visits this spring, there may not be much else for Matthews to see before he is ready to make a final decision.

247Sports has the latest on where things stand in the recruitment of the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas standout:



+ Matthews is nearing a decision. I am hearing that following his weekend visit to Texas A&M, he is working towards making a commitment in the next week or two.

+ He is not currently planning to take official visits in May or June, signaling that his process is entering its final stages.

+ I believe this recruitment will come down to a two-team race: Miami vs. Texas A&M.

+ Georgia and LSU both hosted Matthews on campus this spring as well and are not out of the race. However, I think the Hurricanes and Aggies stand the best shot to land him.

+ Miami has long been considered the favorite for Matthews, who plays his high school football less than an hour away from their campus in South Florida. The Hurricanes hosted Matthews for visits twice this spring and that program has exuded confidence about their chances with the local five-star tackle. He loves the idea of being developed by head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal.

+ A&M is very much in this race. They too, despite being located much farther away from Matthews, hosted him on campus for two spring visits. They may have gotten the last face-to-face time with Matthews after his visit to College Station, Tex. over the weekend. That trip was important for Matthews, who has spent extensive time around Miami's program over the years and wanted to ensure a more balanced evaluation before making a decision.

+ I have yet to put in a prediction for Matthews, but my feeling is that I still find it hard to bet against the Hurricanes winning out. They have prioritized him for years at this point and will do pretty much whatever it takes to ensure they land him.

+ With a decision expected in the near future, we are officially on Mark Matthews watch.

Matthews checks in as the No. 3 overall prospect and No. 1 offensive tackle in the country per 247Sports. He is also the top ranked player in the state of Florida.

The bag they’ll be giving to Mathew’s to pull him from us would imo have to be massive. Like if it’s even we’re winning.

One of A&Ms top100 OT commits did just go visit somewhere else though.

Personally I guess unless A&M just feels incredibly strongly that Mathew’s is significantly better than Olu I’m not sure it makes all that much sense for them to just go on a 100% shift to Mathew’s over just the last week. I mean before this week nobody at A&M would say they were even close. After this week they probably have some hope. But it would necessitate just a massive bag that Miami isn’t even matching. They can afford it but I don’t really get why you’d do that over just getting Olu and securing the guys you already have. Plus they’re still going for that other 5star….

Idk.

To me though Mathews is just raising his price and would like to go to Miami.

Thats just cope from our fans if we lost him, we will pay for this dude we got the bread and he is from SFLA and the best at his position in the class. If we lost him they will use money as cope like fsu and uf fans, thats all that is.

5 days or whatever in college station is more than a trip imo. Not like its to USC
