2027 Mark Matthews 5* OL from STA Commits to TAMU

I’ve learned that common sense in doing the right thing has absolutely nothing to do with recruiting, you wouldn’t think so but it doesn’t at all.

We’ve along with the NCAA has aloud CFB to be compromised now greed has taken full control, it will only get worse.

You do realize A&M just had 4 OL drafted, right? Other schools actually develop OL as well. Even better than Mario. Oh no, God forbid I say that.

Yeah, that's one metric, right?

On the other hand, we could look at a comparative of where they started and where they finished.

The "All-Americans"?

Miami turned a composite 5-star Mauigoa into...a first round pick. aTm turned a composite 4-star (top 50) Bisontis into...a second round pick.

The "Transfer/JuCos"?

Miami turned a composite 3-star JuCo Bell into...a second round pick. aTm turned a composite 3-star transfer from Kansas...into a seventh round pick...

The "Class of 2021"?

Miami had no remaining starting OLs from the 2021 recruiting class. aTm had two, composite 4-star Zuhn (who became a third round pick) and composite 3-star Tight End Crownover (who became a sixth round pick).

So for the top recruits and the transfers/JuCos, Miami did a better job of getting guys drafted. For the "guys who hung around for their entire careers and/or were converted from other positions", it's hard to make a full comparison, but it looks like aTm is adequate on that measure.

I am never a negative poster. I will post the truth, if that is negative, I will say it. I am wise enough to not let emotions get the best of me. I am a vet with recruiting and easily move on from a miss and know most misses are replaceable. Something is going on right now. The momentum from 305 day and the pool party to all these misses is night and day. I don't know if Cooney had the negative recruiting pitch. I don't even know what it is yet, but I wil find out. Something is being used against us across the board and it is a big problem right now. I know recruiting well enough to know that.

Maybe the kid is just a weirdo and wants to d-ride Texas A&M, metaphorically and literally. I guess we can hate on him now and hope he messes his life up.

Like I stated before, let him go then and don’t waste a single minute more recruiting him. If he wants to end up like that kid Crownover, be a 6th rounder, and fighting for a roster spot instead of being a Day 1/2 pick then let him. Give his money to Olubobola and Sam - Pelle and don’t forget to laugh 3-4 years from now when those 2 dudes are millionaires and Matthews has to do it the hard way.

Yeah, that’s the most confusing part. Everyone was feeling great after the barbecue and in two weeks, we lost all that momentum?

You don't know that. Nobody does. Hope that helps.
If you are a OT recruit who's priority is being developed for the next level first & foremost over money then choosing A&M over Miami is NOT the smartest decision, the results literally speak for themselves both on the actual field and this past NFL draft. We have been better then them @ fielding lines & developing Olineman for the pros..thats not an opinion that's a fact no matter how muich mental gymnastics you do to convince yourself to A&M is on par with us @ Oline. Mauigoa and Cantwell both UBER ELITE prospects were smart & bought in & this kid just didnt for whatever reason, it is what it is.

Let's make this clear, since we have people here who think unless you gargle Mario's nuts, you are not a fan.

This discussion was NEVER about our ability to develop OL. It was about whether other schools can develop OL, specifically A&M, period.

I brought up A&Ms ability to develop OL, because we had posters saying Matthews would be dumb to go to A&M instead of Miami, as he would not get developed there. Well, based on the data that is not an accurate assessment.

The reality is this, nobody knows who can/will develop Matthews better. Only time will be the judge of that. What I can say for certain is that Matthews choosing A&M if based on developing OL is not a bad choice.

People acting as if Mario/Alex are the only coaches/programs who can develop OL is laughable. Or saying without question they are the best developers of OL is also comical. Between 8 years as OU and UM, they have had 9 total OL drafted. 6 of those 9 went in the 5th and later. The other 3 included 2 first rounders and 1 3rd rounder (Bell), he was not a 2nd rounder by the way.

In comparison, during that same 8 year stretch;

Alabama has had 6 1st round picks at OL and 13 drafted overall.

Georgia has also had 6 1st round picks at OL 18 and drafted overall.

Ohio State has had 4 1st round picks at OL and 15 drafted overall.

Point is this, OL can actually go to other programs and expect to get developed just as good, if not better than had they chose to attend UM. Doesn't take away from how good Mario and Alex are at developing OL, but they aren't the only ones who can develop OL.

this thread is going to go on and on but as a long time observer of our recruiting I know one thing - I know when a kid doesnt want to be here and this one had that look for a long time,
we have a great culture and a great staff. we are winning and developing. for this local kid not to choose miami the only conclusion is that he wasn't interested. there is no magic wand that makes them stay home when they want to leave.

Matthew’s is a RT? I know u have to pay but if A&M is double I wouldn’t match it no reason to do so
Yes he's a RT...You will find yourself in a situation where you will make that excuse for all the highly talented players if you keep thinking like that...

Yes. He’s another in a long line of South Florida turncoats. I will be gathering a unified committee of the greatest haters we have - on all sides of the MarioBro wars - co-chaired by @ssvir and @Angry Ibis - to determine the best ways of directing ill will towards all locals who shun us. I am taking nominations for committee members for the chairman and chairman to consider.
