Mark Hudspeth

Hudspeth wins against ****ty team. even this year, in year 4, they are 3-3 and their loss were against the 3 best team they played. Every year, his team lose against the "good" team they play and win against the ****.

Out of curiosity what is a good record for a team in non-BCS conference?

Hudspeth do a good job at ULL and he's not a bad coach, make no mistake about it. What I was trying to say was simple that we, as the Miami Hurricanes, should aim higher than Hudspeth. While he did an overall good job at ULL, I don't see in his resume what could make you think he would make Miami wins the big games.

2011 - 1st year : The records of the team they beat: 37-72... only 2 teams with more than .500 record: SDSU in the bowl game (won by 2) and Mario's FIU (won by 5)
Not a bad 1st year considering ULL were 3-9 in 2010

2012 - 2nd year: The records of the team they beat: 42-70 ... only 3 teams with more than .500 record: Louisiana-Monroe (won by 16, a team that lost by 31 in bowl game against Ohio), WKU (won by 4) and East Carolina in the bowl game (won by 9)
Again, good season, but no big win

2013 - 3rd year: The records of the team they beat: 46- 64 ... only 3 teams with more than .500 records: WKU (won by 17), Arkansas State (won by 16) and Tulane in the bowl game (won by 3)
Same as usual, good record, but no big win

2014 - 4th year: They beat a 4-3 FCS opponent by 39, a 1-6 Georgia State team by 3 and a 3-3 Texas State team by 24 while losing by 24 against LTU, 41 against Ole Miss and 25 against Boise State.

He never beated an opponent with a record higher than 8-5 while at ULL...

I understand your thoughts. Can you answer my question? What is a good record for a non-BCS conference team?

Why not Mario? He did the same things Hudspeth has done....guy can coach, knows what it takes to win here, can ddefinitely recruit

I know people are salty about what happened with Mario but if the guy comes in and wins people soon forget.

Mario is a ***ing terrible call. Interesting, what has Mario ACTUALLY done besides chit on our school?

Not much. He has 4 losing seasons. His best season they had 8 wins.

He is also 0-2 coaching against Hudspeth.

Seemed like there was a lot of happy people when Mario was hired on here....

Many even saying if Golden failed Mario should be the next coach.

I'm just throwing out names your gonna hear if and when Golden is let go that's all. I do agree with Hudspeth getting a good look as HC though

Hired as an assistant is different then an HC, are you aware of the difference? Seriously, are you aware of the difference?

As for Mario, he is a **** and took a chit on our program by leaving for Alabama after a month on the job. He is not qualified to be an HC at a BCS school and only retarded ***** would bring his name up, the question is are you a retarded ****?

Lol i love when a simple convo turns into personal attacks just because we have a difference of opinion.

Yes my friend I know the difference between an asst coach actually I know a lot more than you might think but i don't come on here claiming that.

Well aware of what he did to us...lot of people were upset but like everything it was business not personal. Bama wanted him, Bama showed him the money and he took it. Had a chance to learn from Saban or work under Golden which would you have picked?

All I'm saying is dont be surprised to hear or find out Mario gets an interview when we are looking for a new coach. That's all

but pretty much anybody short of Butch Davis and this board will be in an uproar

I didn't attack you, I asked you a question. Mario is not happening. Only retarded ***** will bring his name up. It may have been a business decision but he will not be an HC at UM.

As for me, I would never set foot in the state of Alabama. I refuse to go there under my own volition.

As a fan of that non-BCS team, if you're playing 2 out of conference games against good team (OU, KSU, OKState, LSU, that type of teams)... 9-4 is a good record.

As a Miami fan who wants a new coach, with the same schedule type, 10-3 with a bowl win and at least 1 win against a "big" team is the minimum I would expect from a coach coming from a small school. Of course, each coaching situation is unique, so a 9-4 could satisfy me also.

Let's discount what he did before ULL (even though it was pretty darn good). He has lost 15 times since he started at ULL:

2011: @ #8 Oklahoma State (12-1), @ WKU (7-5), @ Arkansas State (10-3, Hugh Freeze) and @ Arizona (4-8)

33-17
All Games on the road
2 BCS Teams
Bad Ls: Turned over a team that was 3-9, don't consider any of these Ls are bad.

2012: @ Oklahoma State (8-5), @ North Texas (4-8), Arkansas State (10-3, Gus Malzhan) and @ UF (11-2)

33-18
3 Games on the road
2 BCS Teams
Bad Ls: @ North Texas Lost by 7

2013: @ Arkansas (3-9), @ Kansas State (8-5), ULM (6-6) and @ South Alabama (6-6)

23-26
3 Games on the road
2 BCS Teams
Bad Ls: ULM Lost by 3 and @ South Alabama Lost by 21

2014: LA Tech (4-3), @ Ole Miss (7-0) and @ Boise State (5-2)

16-5
2 Games on the road
1 BCS Team

In general (does not include bowl games) they only played

2011: 5 Home Games

2012: 6 Home Games

2013: 5 Home Games

Summation: He has lost 15 times since he started at ULL. Overall W-L record of those teams 105-66. 12 of the 15 have been on the road. 7 of 15 have been against BCS teams and all on the road. Out of the 15 Ls, only 6 were in conference. In the first 3 seasons, 4 of his 12 Ls are against teams with 10 or more wins. In his first 3 seasons, he only played 16 home games.

In general, I don't think ULL should ever beat a BCS team especially on the road. Also, these non-BCS teams tend to play pretty difficult OOC schedules and travel during those games. I think Hudspeth is probably exceeding expectations at ULL. If he wins out in 2014 (the regular season), I think he is a name I would definitely consider. If he wins out, that would be 4 straight 9 win seasons. How much more can he do at this school? He is not my first choice but I think he is name to consider and will get a BCS gig soon.

Hudspeth is a nice coach. If I'm UM, I stay the **** away from any non-BCS HC unless he totally dominated and either knocked off some BCS teams or played them tight to the end.

We are feeling the fat of a HC from the MAC right now, who gave off the appearance of turning Temple into a winner. When you dig deeper, it was all a mirage.

I've heard a couple HCs say that it's a lot easier taking a **** program and making them respectable and competitive than it is taking a good program and making them great. We're looking to get to that next level, not to go from being 3-9 to 8-4 or 9-3.

Coached at my Alma mater ..Univ of North Alabama...was really productive there. I think he was ranked in the top 5 every year he was there. Was favored to win NC every year but unlike D1...D2 has a REAL playoff. Rankings and opinions dont mean ****...win on the field or get the **** out of town. With that said he has been a winner every where he has coached. Won a couple of D2 championships at Delta State...was at Navy..was also passing coordinator at Miss State under the current coach before taking Rajin Cajun Job.

Interesting fact...when I was North Alabama...we played the rajin cajiuns...We ended up winning and were the first D2 school (as I have been told) to win vs a D1 school. North Alabama was also the first school in NCAA history (scholarship level, D3 dont count) to win 3 straight NC's 93, 94, and 95 during those three years we had a 41-1 overall record, only loss was to Youngstown State (close game) and they were coached by Jim Tressel at the time.... We were ballin!!!!

With all that said I dont know how this guy would fit into South Florida culture. He is originally from Mississipi and a southern boy. Would be interesting to see it play out but I dont think we are in the position to gamble any more. BUT he has won everywhere he has been.

The part in bold makes a lot of sense. The point is how much more can someone do at non-BCS schools anymore? Ignoring any bowl game, if the guy won out and won the conference again...would that change your opinion?

4 - Straight 9 win seasons
2 - Straight conference championships

I know this is off topic, but putting up 25 clean strict reps at 225 probably makes him the strongest guy on the team. It's instant credibility to any gym rat. Id like to see him square off vs Larry Fedora in the big 3 lifts.

He could start by not losing 2 games every season in the Sun Belt.
Right now, I don't see what he did that would make him a candidate to make Miami a national championship caliber team.

Larry Coker had a 8-4 season with UTSA in their 2nd season in the existence of the program and 1st in FBS.

I think that is fair. If he ran the table and finished 9-3 (all 3 Ls OOC), does that change your opinion of him?

Like I said, he is not my first choice.

Losing 4 games a year and getting whipped by any decent teams isn't exciting to me. What could he do? He could dominate that level instead of just being good.

Even then, I would probably have trouble hiring him. Arkansas State is normally the most legit team in that conference and as we have seen this year, they are not that good. Considering it's his 4th year, I think I would wait another year to see how he's doing. Finishing undefeated 2 year in a row in the conference would make him a prime candidate.

Hugh Freeze took Arkansas State from a 4-8 record (4-4 in conference) to a 10-3 (8-0 in conference) in 1 year. That's what I look for in a non-BCS HC.

This is a good point. These HCs might not know/understand how to make a program elite.

I don't mind taking a guy from non-BCS school as long as he's creative and intelligent. I love those smartest guy in the room guys like Mullen, Kelly, Leach, et al. They are sometimes insufferable to deal with but they will outscheme the **** out of you. I don't need a guy who's going to scream his head off all practice/game long - I'd rather have a cerebral type. Something we haven't had here in a while.

Cue the episode of Raising Canes where Al Golden thanks the team for their effort all week after losing to Duke. Back-to-back Coastal losses, knocking them out of the race, and he thanks them in the locker room for trying hard.

All that was missing was some juice boxes and a cooler full of ****ing orange slices.

serious question....you guys know the makeup of our stars and I think I have a pretty good picture of someone like Duke. But how do you think the rest of them respond to a coach like that? for real...some current-day athletes would just laugh at a coach like that...I've seen it.
That works with an underdog like the Ragin Cajuns but I would love to know if you think that approach works with kids like Howard, Bush, Coley, etc.

I'd love to think it will.....
