Mark Fletcher vs ATM

From the first carry when he got first down and next play we went malicat, I was like we doing goofy **** and burn the gameplan, burn the malicat, burn everything, we blew them off the ball so thorough, and he ran unlike I saw all year, that I was like yea just ride this horse and play action off of it.. Just because of how that 3rd down defense is a problem (best in last 10 years)

This should of been an all time playoff performance 30+ carries, 250+ yards game. What we were doing in first half was a complete disservice and seemed like we were trying to win some video game creativity award rather than what was obvious to anyone who actually understand football, EVERY coach/announcer even by halftime was asking for more run.. The defensive coordinator in his post game presser said they ran with a light box and we almost never seemed to figure it out. Baffling how we can adjust midgame and think its more important to stubbornly stick to gameplan thats not working when the obvious stuff is right there..

Then the coaches have this weird thing where they think the fans dont like A gap runs just because we called them out spamming plays that dont work and got us multiple Ls in a few weeks time.. No we just want to run what works and adapt to what defense is giving us, its like they lack nuance.

ALL TIME performance by Mark, congrats to that man as he ran possessed.

I truly think if Dawson had to do this all over again, Fletcher gets 25 carries that game. Sometimes you have to be a bit tricky (because you have to), other times you keep it simple(because you can)

Saturday was the latter...

Mark Fletcher had a game yesterday that will go down in history and I'm so happy for that young man. He was a man amongst boys yesterday. However did anyone notice how much more explosive he looked yesterday? From the beginning, the friend I was watching the game with immediately noticed the difference. He looked at me and said, "Whoa! Fletcher looks like a new man. Did you see that explosiveness?". Indeed I did! At first I commented that the time off obviously did him good. Then as the game wore on I thought to myself "Is this Mark Fletcher or Willis McGahee?". Then on the last drive where he took the game over I said, "It looks as though the medical team used the 3 weeks off to give Fletcher bionic legs lol. I know it's been said a million times but Mark Fletcher just wrote himself into Miami Hurricane Football Legend with that performance. 17 carries 172 yards at 10.1 yards per carry on the road at Kyle Field in College Station against an 11-1(Now 11-2) ATM team that was arguably the best the SEC had to offer. What a stud! What a legend! I want to know if anyone else noticed what I saw yesterday.
He was able to get a head of steam going in the pistol formation.

You're 100% correct but it's not acceptable to be so incompetent that you risk getting yourself beat. We don't have the benefit of do-overs in this business. He's incredibly lucky our defense is an insane as it is, or else he'd be directly in the crosshairs of every single Miami fan right now.

Sometimes a team just beats you because they're better, and you could have your boy Bill Walsh calling plays, you're not gonna win.

But it's not acceptable to have parts of your playbook that are working and refuse to use them consistently in favor of nonsense. I completely understand you want to get the ball to Mali. I would, too. He's our best player. But coaches far too often go from one extreme to another. Early in the season, it was all A-gap, no gadgets, and Mali got the ball a few times a game on traditional passing plays. Whip routes, crossers, deep over routes, slot fades, etc. Now, it's all gadgets. You're still allowed to throw him he football more than 1 yard down the field. And I understand the wind was a big part of it. But I think we threw him the ball 2 times more than a yard down the field the entire game...the skinny post in the endzone that was knocked down before we doinked the FG, and the play on the 2nd to last drive he fumbled on. And I don't think we ran Fletcher more than 1 consecutive time in the first 3 quarters of the game.

Running down hill from a pistol instead of trying to read from a shotgun. Block everybody and let him find the hole. Thats how I expected us to run all year. Even if they bring 8 or 9, still break out.
Bingo. Don’t understand why it took Dawson two losses to go to it.

Dawson has no feel for the game. It’s insane.

I believe Dawson got tired of the criticism about his A gap runs and obviously opened up his playbook after SMU. Seems he tried to do that during the game Saturday when he had a distinct advantage in what he’s been criticized for - his A gap runs. In his post game presser, he specifically pointed out that Fletchers 56 yard run was an A gap call. Sometimes, we overthink things when keeping it simple is the best course of action. It’ll be interesting to see what he comes up with for Taint.

Got tired of the criticism or realized it wasn't working. We were not a good running team all year. You gotta do something different. Scoring 20 points week to week in college football ain't gonna work. So, credit to him, and I gave him plenty the last month of the year, he got creative, we played some awful football teams, and the offense started to cook.

But last week was pure regression, and then some. He's got something to prove next week.

I think Fletcher had 47 yards in the first half and the rest of our team combined for 20.

That's exactly what I'm saying. When he got to the lbs he kept ******* running forward hard. That's what he's needed to do the entire time. It turned 8 yard runs into 12-15 yarders and that 50 yarder obviously.

Fletcher had 4 15+ yd carries vs P4 this year coming into the game - 20, 16, 16, 15 yd runs

Fletcher had 4 15+ yd carries vs Texas A&M - 56, 24, 17, 16 yd runs

I 100% agree with you. He was a different dude vs A&M.

There’s a lot to admire and love about that young man. Effort, attitude, resiliency, blocking, power running and loyalty to the program are the obvious ones. High character human.

If the world had more young men like him we’d be a much better place.

And I have been saying this forever but I have zero doubt that the fact we just ran half the pistol snaps we have all season in this game played a significant role in that. It is plainly just better especially for bigger backs. At this point I can't be convinced otherwise. With Beck not being a run threat Idgaf Dawson better use pistol the rest of the way. With Pringle I'm not demanding it necessarily but with Fletcher I am.
