For all the negativity towards Miami recruiting right now, people have a really short memory...

Did everyone forget how the 2022 recruiting class went only 9 months ago?
-We had 9 commits going into the season, last one was Markeith Williams on 8/11.
-0 commits and 1 decommit (Trequon Fegans) during the season and fired Manny
-Wesley Bissainthe commits on 12/4 - pretty sure he knew Mario was coming
-Mario took over on 12/6 with 9 total commits for '22 and 1 (Lamar Seymour) for '23
-3 of 9 decommitted (Justin Medlock, Landon Ibieta, Falentha Carswell) within the next 2 weeks and 0 after that.

-Closed out the high school signing class with:
--4 Blue chippers (highest ranked in class): Nyjalik Kelly, Jaleel Skinner, Cyrus Moss, TreVonte' Citizen
--4 Projects (lowest ranked in class): Jaden Harris, Anez Cooper, Ahmad Moten, Matthew McCoy

-Went hard to the portal and got 11 immediate contributors:
--3 Starters: Akheem Mesidor, Henry Parrish, Darrell Jackson Jr.
--8 2 Deep: Frank Ladson, Logan Sagapolu, Mitchell Agude, Caleb Johnson, Daryl Porter Jr., Jacob Lichtenstein, Jonathan Denis, Antonio Moultrie
-Picks up Colby Young during the summer.

Look at his evaluations... do you see any reaches or misevals? I know it's hard to tell so early in the process but every portal transfer has already contributed. Mesidor and Parrish have been 2 of our top players so far. The "reaches" have turned out to be some of the early surprises (Young, Cooper). Let's not forget the fact that he did most of this without a full staff and while trying to put together a staff. Stop complaining and just enjoy the process.

Wait Young who just now got to play is tied for 1st in TD receptions?

NGL we 3-3 I'm not singing praises of players that have yet to contribute. Young is the only player that has made an impact. Mario needs to show he can build a contender. One or two players in a class doesn't do that. We need to be hitting on 65-75% of classes.

That’s fine.

But what have you done for me lately?

Well since you asked and we’re making lists:

- Mocked the second wave.
- Got insulted for mocking the second wave.
- The second wave still never really came.

- Then had a great feeling about a WR according to the board only to lose 3 games in a row running a subpar offense and losing out of the early pledge from said WR…

- Watched another WR commit to FSU

- Watched UF mop up DB recruits

No one is saying Mario can’t recruit, but there is a legit concern that the early season blunders, many mirroring long term concerns, may have hurt with some recruits impacting the potential standard bump….

He’s a closer. This class will come together eventually.
Agreed - and most of the “misses” so far have been local kids. He won’t be able to change that culture, even with wins and firing Gattis and bringing in spread OC. Those recruits were already recruited through 7v7 and handlers.

That said, he is doing exactly what he should be doing in this day (especially considering the culture locally), he‘s putting a lot more eggs in national baskets and while it seems slow right now, he will really work those connections after the season and I think he will close strong with out of state commits being the dogs and recruiting leaders. Already happening with Rashada and Francis.

Mario didn’t all of the sudden forget how to recruit.

But there’s no doubt in mind he’s now fully realizing the difficulties of recruiting at Miami. Yes Oregon had unique hurdles to overcome. But the toxicity around this program makes this recruiting job just as hard, if not harder. At least in the short term aka turning things around.

Salvaging this season (8-4…maybe even 7-5 with a bowl win?) would put Mario in a good spot to finish strong. Not top 5. But top 10 for sure.

And that FSU will be huge if we win the next two.

All of that was without Alonzo Highsmith's talent evaluation. Come NSD, we'll be ecstatic.

Exactly we got Rashada and Francis on board I was hoping for ****ey too but he’s going elsewhere. I would love to flip Inniss late and still think we possibly could. Once he changed the culture the local kids will be begging to be apart of it.
