Mario's Only Potential Imperfection

Obviously Mario has been beyond incredible in: bringing in an amazing group of: a) assistant coaches; b) support staff/analysts/scouts; and, c) recruits (so far, only to get even more amazing).

In my opinion, he is a much younger, more stable, version of the prior mega-builder... Butch Davis.

Mario's only remaining potential question mark is the same one that Butch had. Namely, game day coaching.

I think his great offensive and defensive coordinators and position coaches will be major difference makers versus him at Oregon.

Thus, my question is:

1. Is Mario much better than his reputation, and is great as is, at game day coaching?

or

2. Do you think he will get better by working on it and benefit by getting pointers from the likes of the great coaches at his coaching clinic? ( https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/2022-coaches-clinic.176723 )

or

3. Do you think he might use some more of our deep financial resources to bring on a former head coach known for his game day coaching acumen? And, if #3, do any of you have any great coaches he could consider for that role?

He should be letting he OC and DC make the calls and he provides input.

Do we trust in Gattis (maybe, not sold yet) and Steele (I feel much better here).

If Kirby can win a championship… Mario can win a championship

But to answer your question. I think he is better than his reputation as a game day coach. He is not a offense mastermind but he understands what win games… The battle in the trenches and his teams normally line up and try to beat the man in front of them. It works most of the time and sometimes it doesn’t (Utah last year) but the way he is recruiting… he will be about to line against Bama/Uga/Clemson and win.

As great as recruiting has been, the coaching hires has been A1. He has surrounded himself with some of the top football minds.

Just so everyone understands the profound sadness of this porst before I lock this thread...

OP started a nearly identical thread on 6/26 that I was fortunate enough to delete. Yes, that's right, within hours of Rashada committing he tried to start this nonsense.

Now, within hours of Mauigoa's commit, OP is back wanting to have a conversation on the merits of Mario's game day coaching.

That's who you all are responding to. Take note and govern yourselves accordingly in the future.
