There have been some absolute gems on Mario's recruiting philosophy posted in various threads the past couple of days. Decided to collect them in a thread for better discussion and searching in the future. Will update as more are posted.

  • Whenever and wherever possible, crush the Gator and any hopes they have in resurrecting their recruiting/program. @LeedsCane with potentially the greatest post in CIS history
  • Overrecruit at all positions and never get caught without a plan A (prime). @TheOriginalCane shared some major wisdom

  • Win over a recruits family, then win the recruit. Nathaniel "Ray Ray" Joseph summarized this point well when he said "What Miami did the best was recruit my family". Jackson Carver said what sealed the deal in his recruitment was Mario winning over his family.

  • Recruit harder than a position coach and know everything about the recruit.

  • It's the little things that matter in recruiting. @DMoney points out it's the little things that can cause a kid to commit. And it's the little things that reveal if you're next level recruiting.

  • 4AM in the morning is prime time to impress recruits and close. This revealed itself in both the Ray Ray and Kirkland recruitments. Not sure if he does this with all recruits or just certain situations but clearly shows he cares more than the competition.

  • Schedule each commitment announcement to maximize momentum and publicity. @LuCane noticed the trend w/Popo. The proper staggering of posts makes it seem like the Canes are a recruiting jugerrnaut and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

  • Each recruit gets a customized official visit plan catered to their interests. @luke_chaney4 broke this news. Suspect this is one reason why Mario has an insane closing percentage after officials.

  • Every commit becomes a recruiter.

  • Once a kid commits, recruit them AND their parents with even greater intensity. Some coaches make the mistake of reducing contact once a kid commits. Maintaining a commit may be even harder work than obtaining the original commitment.

  • @Ghandi : [Even if the situation appears hopeless] If you prioritize a kid, you have to recruit him until he signs. That’s the difference between an elite recruiter and an ok one.

Someone else posted here a few weeks ago that Mario adopted this strategy in Oregon and I'd like to give them credit. I searched but I can't find it.

Its been a minute since we added a recruiting law, but this nugget @Ghandi dropped was great
