Mario on Joe Rose this Morning, 9-12-22

Glad first comments about these guys is the rb running 10.1 speed and wr have 10.5 speed.. AM struggle to drive and most of their tds this season have been explosive plays, if we can limit them in that way we should be good.. Some players really should stay off the field as even if they play with angles it wont be enough..

trust in Mario's ability to prepare the team. He had Oregon prepared for an even more difficult test last season. Not saying we win but like our chances with Mario preparing the team.

Yep, they have some game breakers on offense. I've watched most of their first two games, the QB is mediocre and they have a real hard time running the football. We have to stop the run and force this QB to make plays. He's not a bad runner, so I assume we will give up some infuriating 3rd and longs when he scrambles. We need to do our best not to give up the explosive play and make them drive the field, don't think there is anyway they can consistently do that.

The D is loaded with studs, but App State had good success against them, particularly running the football. This will be a serious test for Mario and the team, but this game is definitely winnable.

that was during the time rumors were starting to swirl of him leaving. Maybe the players sensed something was going on? You even had Mirabal peeping in on canes chats at that time while still coaching and game planning for Oregon?
Utah was pretty good by the end of the year and Oregon dealt with a lot of injuries over the course of the season as well as an average QB.

When those games were played, Utah was just the better team.

Lined opened at -5.5 A&M…wouldn’t be surprised if the nbr drops -4.5 as money pops toward Canes as the week progresses…a one possession game. Get it done Miami!!

Their Dline is young so I think that is why if you have an experienced Oline even though they are talented upfront you can wear down the young guys and play ball control.

Their scoring against Sam Houston was mostly deep shots, cheap TDs. They havent really sustained anything on offense. Against App st Achaine broke a 30+ yard run and took a kick back for their scoring. Take away the deep plays and make their qb sustain drives, hope we can generate a pass rush to make him uncomfortable. We dont even need sacks with this qb, just get him off his spot, mess with his footwork/mechanics and he turns to santa clause

Don't ignore the Utah games. Still don't know what the heck happened there.
It was a bad matchup for Oregon, Utah had a physical, experienced football team that really punished Oregon. Not to say Mario has 0 accountability in those games but his team just didn’t matchup well with Utah.

I just don't think at that point in his time at Oregon the "we just don't match up well" excuse holds water, especially when they were able to best OSU. Maybe in year 2 but not year 4.

The first Utah loss was a really bad one. The only thing I can come up with is a mix of being outschemed and not keeping his eye on the ball (we'd lost to FSU the week prior, and there was massive chatter Manny was going to be canned).

On the second loss, it's clear he was already on his way to Miami and had a million things on his mind. Staff was worried about job security, and players were probably deflated that their HC was leaving them.

Don’t necessarily disagree with you other than to say a lot of their guys were still under classmen, bad losses anyway you look at it though.
