Mario on Joe Rose Show Monday

Things that stood out to me from Mario:

Talking up both Allen haye and Malik Curtis among many others but those two surprised me to hear. GREAT NEWS

Been talked about a bunch but Mario confirms tackling is significantly better.

Raved about Rivers. Mario wouldn’t comment on what his best position is.

Receiving core outside of Restrepo isn’t there right now but Mario specifically singled out Brashard Smith…. Interesting

This is why Joe Rose is the best… when he heard Restrepo and smith his next question was can you play both of them at same time both being slots…. Mario didn’t directly answer but sounds like yes

End of interview confirmed that other players on roster are potentially emergency backs. Take that as Brashard

So Smith is doing well? Didn't know that.

I mean sheesh..Allen Haye is in the mix too? How much deeper can our DL depth get! Talk about a great problem to have right now!

If your a WR sitting in that room, this is your opportunity to steal a job. Nobody has stepped up it seems outside of Xman. Mario will take it on the arm this year but ill bet he wont go into next season having this WR room hold him back again. The time is now for many of these guys.

Seeing what we did in the portal at d line I fully expect us to do the same at receiver next off season. At miami this is unacceptable

Remember I think it was footballville questioning if Brashard gets underestimated because he makes plays look routine.. Its become expected that he just makes plays out there and its like oh yea brashard but he is behind Restrepo if that makes sense..

They might have to find ways to get on field at same time and not get caught up in measurements and having 2 slots

Alan Haye surprised me at the spring game. He is built very stout - reminded me of DJ Jones from the 49ers who is shorter, but hard to move and has a great motor. Hopefully we can use him as a 1T to fill that gap hard on some run downs. Great for the depth and future.

Prepare your pause buttons lol . . . agreed. He may have been the biggest DT we have, which is quite a thing to say of a RS freshman. He was incredibly wide. Looks like a future run stuffer. Physically, he looks the part.

Edit: the more I think about it, that's awesome that MC is mentioning Haye. He's in a stacked position. LT56, JHH, Miller, Moultrie, Licht, Jackson . . . if he is drawing praise at such a deep group, he must be doing great work.

At this point, I think Mario's been around long enough that we should just expect some of his info to be reliable, some motivational, and some intentionally misleading. I don't think anyone should care. This is one of the few times in the last 20 years I'll just keep repeating "patience, let's wait and see."

Man I been thinking the whole time when people bring up speed and deep threats that why can’t smith play a dorsett role for us. They are the same size and dorsett was primarily a outside wr here. Dorsett wasn’t running the entire route tree either but he was burning people deep

Love the Haye tidbit. I don’t expect much from him THIS season outside of clean up time etc, but if he can keep developing and take a step then the 2023 season could be monumental for him & the defense.
If Jordan Miller leaves, Haye (or Moten) needs to make a leap. Perhaps both. Ideally, we also need to recruit a bigtime DT this year, I think. Those dudes take a couple years to mature into what we need. But, that's another topic.
