From Pate's visit to campus last week
30 minutes. some pretty honest conversation, particularly about the defense.

Mannn… first off Monday Morning Quarterbacking is easy, I’ll start with that.
He says we were easy to figure out after game 3 and 4. We gave up 0 points game 3 and 15 points game 4. Wonder if he was off in guessing which games he identified as noticing the problems?
Either way games 5, 6 and 7 we gave up 117 points total after only giving up 41 the first 3. Got into the meat of our schedule but like I pointed out in another thread VT, Cal and UL weren’t doing to other teams with a pulse what they did to us.
Here’s where I split from MC… he didn’t think making a change in season would have been beneficial. The writing was on the wall after Louisville. I’ll go to my grave believing what I felt after that game. Guidry needed to be stripped of playing calling duties and if he couldn’t handle that then part ways mid season anyway. I have a hard time believing giving DC duties to Jason Taylor or Co-DC between him and D Nic would have gotten us worse results.
Ship had sailed but MC allowing Guidry to steer the defense in the wrong direction and he saw it too while having what he acknowledged as well as having a “generational offense” doesn’t set well with me.
Lol… certainly not this entire board last spring…So the secondary wasn't deep enough and he had no clue how to adjust in season.
Who would have predicted those weaknesses?

MC is a fraud when it comes to coaching
Hidden in his response was the lack of personnel to make meaningful change. That’s not an acceptable excuse, but can see dramatic offseason changes in back end of defense - bodies gone and crazy number brought in.Mannn… first off Monday Morning Quarterbacking is easy, I’ll start with that.

I agree man id say it happened twice with Gatass but last year it was to much on the line. Get rid of guidry beat GT or Syracuse and its a whole different ball game!! Tf he mean wouldnt have been beneficial smhMannn… first off Monday Morning Quarterbacking is easy, I’ll start with that.

One of the most telling stats when I was looking at Heatherman was PPG and yards against versus the average of what those teams normally put upMannn… first off Monday Morning Quarterbacking is easy, I’ll start with that.

I noticed that too. Took a big deep breath when I read it. Feels like the last time we had that was early 2000s.One of the most telling stats when I was looking at Heatherman was PPG and yards against versus the average of what those teams normally put up
Minnesota almost always held the opponent to under their average, even the best teams they played
Our defense was definitely the opposite
You can skew numbers in a lot of ways but it’s hard to get away from that one
For the life of me (and I was there) I could't understand why we go up 21 at Syracuse with a literal playoff berth on the line and don't play a majority shell coverage the rest of the game. Let Syracuse drive patiently (possibly force the QB into mistakes) while playing catchup and tighten up in the redzone. Upon rewatch, the safeties were probably so bad, it didn't matter.I agree man id say it happened twice with Gatass but last year it was to much on the line. Also Kyle McCord made very, very few mistakes. He was by far the best QB we faced all season. For the life of me (and I was there) I could't understand why we go up 21 at Syracuse with a literal playoff berth on the line and don't play a majority shell coverage the rest of the game. Which ultimately falls on Mario! He claims all the time about adding talent and roster management. I love the dude think he gets us where were trying to be but the situation were talking about and Gattis. Its like he hasnt cared about the little things his ultimate goal is we will know and he will know when the team is right cause they will dominate there way through any situation an no one will be able to stop it. And i get the big picture but u gotta fight for your team in those situations! Just My opinionFor the life of me (and I was there) I could't understand why we go up 21 at Syracuse with a literal playoff berth on the line and don't play a majority shell coverage the rest of the game. I agree.Huh? He said they were easy to figure out "after game 3 or 4" ... after 4 is when the defense went splat.
I think he was right on the money. Defense was always called the same, so it makes sense that any decent OC, once they had enough tape could figure out how to slice us up.
