We hired a career .500 coach because he played at Miami.

Oh well..

Y'all gotta stop toting this stat out with 0 actual meaning behind it. He was 34-13 for the P5 school he coached, and coached at FIU, who had a total of 10 wins for the 4 years prior to him getting there. He went 27-47 at one of the worst FBS programs in the nation. Butch Davis had time to get "his guys" in FIU just to go 1-16 in his last 2 years there.

I want a HC who provides a definitive schematic advantage and excels with in-game management…basically the opposite of every HC Miami has had since Butch.

This. Lanning has virtually turned over the entire roster while Mario was there and they are arguably as good or better. We'll see what happens when Nix leaves but OU fans are thrilled that Mario is gone.

Nix wasn't this game changing QB when he transferred. he was basically told to kick rocks after having a meh career at AU (he got worse year over year there). Oregon resurrected his career and theyre doing it with two diff OCs now. on top of that, Lanning is a first time HC and they looked better coached than we do

Mario will always be a great recruiter because recruiting is all about work ethic. Mario out-works everyone.


Mario will never be a great gameday coach because gameday coaching is about thinking. Mario out-thinks no one.

I keep saying it, but that's old school thinking.

NIL (legal pay for play) > NFL Draft Producing > Winning team.

Once you get past those things, you can get to recruiting ability. NIL can overcome it all, but you better do those things or your recruiting won't ever be elite.

NIL is the game changer. We got an alright NIL program, but not an elite one. I'm not condemning anyone or anything that puts any money into the program, I applaud it. That's awesome of them to support the ones we get. We just have to pay more or kick *** at those other two key components if we want to get back.

No amount of work or relationship building cannovercome those three together though and we're lacking on the last two.

Eye for talent and good coaching can help, but do we have those guys? Not good enough so far.

Tvd -6 turnovers in two losses (not going to count the Lee snap)
Lt - isn’t playing like a future first rounder
Kam - great excluding when he forgets he is the Safety
Jw - see Kam, plus penalties
Flagg - runs like he has muddy boots on
Don - fumble and always injuried
Harvey - 1 sack vs Ohio, pretty disappointing
JHH - hasn’t developed into a starting DT
Couch - never good enough for everyone
K Smith - not a safety, not a Lb, good for a penalty a game

I don’t see things changing namely because we haven’t recruited great at DL, DB, & QB. Thus, in two years we will still be complaining about our lack of DL, QB, and DBs.

alot of them were mad when he left. Im going to keep it real he lost to Utah the way he did the last year because he was checked out. After Manny lost to MSU, he basically knew he was coming here.

QB isn’t about recruiting now. It is about the portal. Over 50% of the top 25 teams start a portal kid.

As for the WRs, I would love to have more speed on the field. Ray Ray and BSmith should get more snaps since Harrell doesn’t appear to be that guy.
