Mario has done an awesome job!! His next step as HC to getting to the next title game...

This not a negative Mario post - the guy deserves all the flowers in the world and I wouldn't trade him for any coach out there!

However, his next step in maturation as a Saban disciple is team discipline; especially penalties. Saban's teams didn't commit a bunch of penalties.

He's talked about penalties a ton, but they keep happening as if there's nothing that can be done about it. But, we lost to a team thats done something about it. We don't lose any games this year, including the natty, if the team were more disciplined. We also need to improve tackling, but if Mario gets the team to average 4 penalties a game next year (or fewer) and especially cuts down on crucial penalties at the most inopportune times, we will be a SERIOUS natty contender in 26'.

Wild how negative this fanbase is after being 40 yards away from a National Championship. We’ve improved significantly in every year under Mario. Next year should be an 11 win regular season
 
Mario needs to sit down with Saban and figure this out. It is really obvious Saban respects Mario and wants him to be successful--he was straight up rooting for us all playoffs. To me that speaks volumes about the type of coach, person, and competitor Mario is. We are very fortunate to have him.

Did you guys see how he stayed on the field--stunned--and stood there soaking in Indiana's celebration on our own field? It was masochistic, but I am sure this game will pay dividends for our program going forward, whether we get another chance at #6 in the near future or not.

I truly believe Mario will agonize over this and self-scout--relentlessly improving on our weaknesses as he has done every offseason since 2021. I was skeptical about Mario, but I am now fully convinced he is our Dabo, Bobby Bowden, or Kirby Smart.

What an idiotic take. We can easily go 11-1/10-2 next year and win the ACCCG for an auto-bid, potential bye (or home playoff game).

Trust me.... Mario will be agonizing over this all off season starting in a week... as will most fans.

Right now it's just coping time....too close... but in a few days the dull aching pain will start.... we all are going to hurt over this for awhile, my friends. ... replaying the game in our heads over and over again... wondering over what could have been... wishing the last play didn't happen.

Agree 100%, however the Canes will always be subject to the BIAS ACC REFS. There's no escaping it. Just 1 or 2 timely calls can derail our drives, extend the opponents drives, change momentum and cost you the game. I feel that's what happened in both our losses, more so SMU. The hate is real.

Until UM gets a fair shake from the ACC, penalties are a given. JMO.

This conference uses UM to promote the league when it's convenient, otherwise the Canes are treated like dogs.
 
If he does, he’ll do something that no other coach has done in the last 35 years that I’ve been watching. I love the canes, but they’ve ALWAYS been frustrating to watch from a penalty perspective. We have got to be one of the dumbest teams in CFB. At times, it’s like we love to kick ourselves in the dyck and then opposing teams take advantage of our stupidity.

Historically we’ve been what you said. Just dumb penalties at the worst time. I’m not sure how they fix it. It’s like it’s a stench on the team they just can’t shake.

Refs at practices all the time and it still happens. Whether it’s just us or a combination of the refs in a game it’s just something we can’t shake
